Damn if this woman isn’t all sorts of sexy from her sundress that hugs her voluptuous curves, to the splattering of freckles over her nose, and her twinkling eyes.

I’m sunk. Hook, line, and sinker.

“I’m going to save the rest of this for later. Do you want to come to my cabin and have some lemonade or tea?” Mady tilts her head toward the cabin where I saw her doing yoga, and I can’t resist. I’ll follow her anywhere.

“Wait,” placing my hands on either side of her shoulders, I search into her eyes before tipping her chin up and kissing her soft lips.

“Joe,” she murmurs and sighs leaning in to return the kiss. “Wow,” she whispers breathlessly as we come up for air and part from the passionate of all passionate kisses.

This woman is quickly becoming someone who will change my entire life. For the better.

“Joe, we can’t do this. I’m sorry.”

Wait? What?

“That kiss, Joe,” Mady touches her lip, and looks down at the grass. “There’s something I should tell you.”

“Shit. You do have a big beefy boyfriend, don’t you?” I look over her shoulder toward her cabin, but no crazy man is running toward us.

“No, no, nothing like that, but. Ugh.” Mady looks tortured. “I should go. Thank you for a lovely time today.”

Mady turns to leave, dashing through the grass, and I have to hustle to catch up with her. “Mady?”

Mady stops abruptly and grabs my hand, placing it in her belly.

“I’m single, Joe. Single but pregnant. And it wouldn’t be fair to you if I allowed something to develop that has no future, and I can see you’re a nice guy, and you deserve a woman who isn’t—.”

“Did you feel that too?” I look from my hand on her belly to her face, and back down again. Mady’s shocked expression matches mine. She lifts my hand and moves it to the other side, staring at her stomach.

“She kicked! I felt that!” Mady’s eyes tear up.

“Was that the first time?” And I got to experience it.

She nods and pulls my hands away. “And now you see why we can’t start anything.”

But I’m overcome and not thinking things through. Story of my life, some might say.

Cupping her face in my hands, I pull her towards me and kiss her hard. She doesn’t respond at first, but when she does, it’s sends a shock wave through every nerve ending I have.

I should be scared. And I think most men would be. But I’m not. On the contrary, she’s all the more beautiful and enticing to me. Strong independent woman.

“How about that lemonade?”

Mady cocks her head to the side and eyes me curiously. “You still want to come back for lemonade?”

“Yes, Mady. I had a great time with you today and I’m not ready for the day to end.”

Up the hill, hand in hand we walk in silence as the first hint of civil twilight and sunset marks the land with the sideways reflection of light. It’s only been one day, but she’s quickly becoming my favorite person, and although this is a guy’s trip, I am feeling no qualms about spending the evening with her.

Chapter Five

Mady

“Do you need to check in with your friends? Send proof of life?” The screen door of the cabin squeaks as I step outside with a pitcher of lemonade and a couple of plastic cups. There’s no kitchen in the cabin, but I made do with a cooler and a few kitchen items from my van.

“No, as long as I make it back for the eight-a.m. tee time, they won’t worry.”

“Eight, huh? That gives us plenty of time.” To do what I don’t know. The tension in the air thickens as I say that and take a seat in the rocking chair next to his.
