“Busy. Three new patients yesterday. I stayed till seven in the office.”

“And here I thought we could put that place to better use. So we got lucky last Wednesday.”

She chuckled. “Yes.”

He loved the way her cheeks flamed and her eyes glazed. Was she remembering their tryst, too? Replaying an X-rated memory video of their activities the way he did every night?

“The sunset is gorgeous.”

“Glad you’re enjoying it.”

The sun had morphed into a flamboyant ball against a background of broken clouds, but he preferred watching her dark eyes sparkling with golden stars.

She met his gaze and blinked. “These ribs are delicious.”

“The best; they’re from the Montgomery Inn.”

How long were they going to utter sheer nonsense with their minds focused on other things? More interesting stuff as far as he was concerned. Or maybe he’d expected too much from this dinner on the balcony? A romantic dinner to be followed by…

She licked her lips to show her appreciation of the meat.

His body stiffened, and his heart somersaulted at the sight of her active tongue skating over her plush lips.

Hey babe. I should be doing that.

What was the matter with him? Usually, he loved the Montgomery Inn’s ribs. Tonight, all he could think of was getting through dinner, and moving onto part two of his program.

She finished her meal and relaxed against her chair, watching the orange ball dipping below the horizon and slowly disappearing.

“We should make a wish.” She squeezed her eyes shut.

He watched her curiously. “What did you wish for, Brenda?”

“None of your business,” she answered, her tone teasing rather than harsh.

He laughed. “Now I’m sure I was in your wish. Maybe I should make a wish, too.” He closed his eyes, watching her through his lowered lashes. “I wish to spend many wonderful hours with you.”

“Matt, I wished for that, too.” She wasn’t smiling, and he believed her.

Blood roaring in his veins, he pushed his chair back, stood, and then pulled her up into his arms. “If we kiss at sunset, our wishes will come true.”

He lowered his head and captured her lips, kissing her gently, tenderly, taking his time to feel and taste, before deepening his kiss and crushing her mouth.

“Brenda, I have something to tell you,” he whispered against her temple. “I… I…” Her flowery perfume enveloped him and numbed his thoughts.

“What?” She lifted her head, her eyes limpid and warm.

“I hope you won’t be upset.”

Her head tilted, she slanted him a curious look. “About what?”

“Come, I’ll show you.” She tried to collect the plates. “Leave this. We’ll clean up later.” Tugging at her hand, he brought her inside the room and turned down the comforter.

“This morning, I replaced the sheets with smoother satin ones.”

Her eyes rounded and a hint of a smile curled her lips.

“Last time, on the spur of the moment, we tumbled on the sofa. It was amazing, but today, I spent the whole morning planning and organizing things for your comfort. I want you to be happy. I want you to return here. In a way, I want my bedroom to become yours, too.”
