Rational thought evaporated. His head bent, and his lips brushed hers.
She gasped, but didn’t move, her jaw sagging, her lips parting.
He wrapped his arms around her and slowly molded their lips together, tasting the sweetness of her mouth, inhaling her floral scent. Her moan scared him. Had he lost his best friend with his bold uncontrolled move?
He eased away and trailed light kisses over her cheek and temple. “Susan,” he whispered. “I promise I’ll do anything for you.”
“Royce, kiss me again, please.”
As if she needed to beg.
He pulled her onto his lap and captured her mouth again, his tongue meeting hers in a joyful dance. She laced her fingers at the base of his neck and melted against him. Their heartbeats hammered in their chests, and their labored breathing echoed. He kept her in his arms, alternating passionate kisses on her mouth with soft ones on her face.
Clouds blanketed the moon and shrouded the yard in darkness. How long had they stayed together, starved for each other’s affection?
“Royce, it’s the first time I’ve kissed a man this way.”
He caressed her long hair, curling the silky strands around his fingers. “Susan sweetheart, I’m not any man. I’m your friend. I’ll never take advantage of you.”
“I know. Please, Royce, find him a wife and I’ll rep—” She stopped short.
His eyebrows shot up in shock. “You’ll repay me?” He squinted at her, and then smiled. “Why not? Not with money, I hope. I make plenty of it at work. Would you repay me with kisses?”
“Seriously?” Shock and excitement danced in her eyes.
“Yes. I’ll prepare a plan of action, work on it, and report to you. And every time I report, I expect to be paid, Dr. Chen. Deal?” He slid her to the bench and stood, extending a hand.
She shook it. “Deal. I’ll be winning on all fronts. Can I give you an advance?” Her eyes sparkled with luminous stars.
He squeezed her against him and crushed her mouth.
For a taste of her passion, he would go out of his way to get rid of the scum.
Easy to say.
He could get Kasem to sleep with trolls, but how would he get a decent young woman to accept this jerk who didn’t have a job, didn’t want to work, didn’t even know how to treat a woman decently?
