“Bigger than you can imagine. There are two bedrooms down here, with a full-bath, and a half-bath.”

She nodded, suitably impressed. “I don’t play pool, but we can try ping pong.”

They played for an hour. He beat her once, and almost let her beat him the second time, then smashed the winning point with all his strength.

“No fair.” She collapsed laughing against him. “That match was mine. You stole it.”

He laughed and then pulled her against him, kissing her passionately.

“Would you like to watch an old movie?”

She nodded.

He putPretty Womanon the big screen and brought her a second glass of Bailey’s.

She snuggled into his arms as they watched the movie they’d both seen several times, kissing and making out like teenagers in love.

After the movie, they settled down in the kitchen while she heated the lasagna.

“Can we come back here next weekend?”

“I wish we could, but we can’t. Next weekend, Matt and Brenda expect me for dinner. I’m supposed to give them a report on the house’s condition to send to Dad. The previous tenants should pay for any damages.”

“That’s too bad.” She sighed.

“Come with me to Matt’s. Brenda is your friend, too.”

She weighed the idea for a few seconds. “All right. I was planning to consult her about my problem with Kasem.”

He lost his joyful grin. “What is there to consult her about? He’s old history. You said you decided you would never marry him.” He grabbed her shoulders. “Susan, don’t drive me crazy. Your story with Kasem is over.”

“Yes, of course it’s over.”

As if she ever could consider marriage to Kasem after the fabulous time spent in Royce’s arms.

“Then don’t talk about him. Don’t think about him. You belong to me. We belong to each other,” he corrected right away, the ferocity of his passion frightening as well as reassuring and exalting.

She’d never seen Royce so passionate, so possessive, so worried. She locked her arms around him and kissed him.

“I love you, Royce. Only you. Forever.”

“Much better.”

He returned her kisses and then swallowed the rest of his drink.

They ate dinner silently. Was he upset or pondering their future? As her best friend Royce had been so easy to talk to; as a lover, he intimidated her.

After dinner, he grabbed her hand. “Let’s go upstairs.”

“We brought a delicious dessert. Don’t you want it?”

“Later.”

What about now? What did he have in mind?
