“Ah babe,” he growled.

Soon, she released her hold when his fingers invaded her private core, fondling and creating more heat than she could bear. Her hands clasped his shoulders, her nails grazing his skin.

“Easy,” he groaned, as he slid inside her and thrust. They shuddered and clung to each other, sweaty, tired and happy.

He rolled to his side and kissed her.

“It was amazing, Royce. I heard thunder in my head.”

“I saw lightning.”

“I hear it again, and I can see a ray of light.” They laughed, and suddenly froze.

He snapped his head out of the bag, listening. “Damn it, someone is knocking on the basement door.”

“No way,” she screamed, panicking.

“Shh, wear your undies.”

He rushed into his trunks and threw his hands out of the sleeping bag to reach his pants and shirt.

While she fumbled to clasp her bra and wriggled to fit into her panties, he’d already zipped his pants and pulled himself out of the sleeping bag as decent as could be.

“My dress. Hand me my dress, for heaven’s sake.” She grabbed his leg before he could abandon her half naked.

Somehow she managed to squeeze into the damn dress, but decided to remain in the safety of the sleeping bag. Anxiety spiked, and she dove deeper inside the bag to hide her head.

“I can’t even reach the safe and my dad’s gun.”

“No gun, Royce, please no gun.” Her teeth chattered. “The last thing we want is to attract the police. If it’s a thief, give him some money and send him away. No, no, better not open the door. Ignore them.”

Had he even heard her with her voice muffled in the bag?

Who could be knocking on the door at this hour?

Royce reached the door and flashed his phone light on the figures standing behind the glass partition of the door.

“Whoever you are, open the door, or we’ll break the glass and have you arrested.”

Damn he had a feeling he wouldn’t like to see the intruders. “Who are you?” he asked to gain time.

“Police. Officer Grant and Officer Cortez.”

“Show me your badges against the glass.” They did. Damn, damn. “You have no right to be here. I’m in my house.”

“That’s a good one. Are you opening or shall I break the glass?”

“I’m Royce Winston. Dr. Steve Winston’s son.”

There was moment of silence. “We need to see an i.d.”

“I’m opening the door, but don’t shoot and don’t come in.” He opened the door but stayed in the doorway, blocking their entrance and handed them his driver’s license.

Stunned, they flashed their light on his face, then on the room and the sleeping bag. “I’m Officer Grant. Can you explain why you sneaked into the basement?”

“It’s my house, damn it.” He hoped his aggressive tone would throw them out before Susan got fed up and leave her hiding place. “I can go in whichever room I want. Why areyouhere?”
