I held back a snort. The situation was bad enough without J'avet knowing we were laughing at him.

"Yeah," I muttered, then cursed softly to myself. "Is that even possible?"

"Finding you complicit?" Slek asked. He lowered his feet and leaned over to put a hand on my knee. "We'll be sure it doesn't happen."

"Yes, we will." Danec shifted closer and put an arm around my shoulders.

With both men so close, I was both confused and hot at the same time. Danec wanted to be friends, Slek wanted to take it slowly, and we were on a pod full of people. That didn't stop my mind from going into overdrive, fuelled by heated, pounding blood.

I swallowed and forced a half smile. "Thanks, guys. I suppose I should have said something, but Jones just seemed angry, not destructive. He wanted to go to Agus to make Earth a better place. Or so he said." Maybe I was so naive, I bought every word. I didn't want to think the worst of people. Well, most people.

I glanced toward J'avet, who now stood in the cockpit, speaking to Brinley in a low voice. I heard the name 'Jones' mentioned and Brinley nodded. No doubt J'avet put the word out to find the man. That was fair enough. With any luck, they would find him and he'd tell them I had nothing to do with what happened. Then J'avet could apologise—

Okay, I'm not that naive.

"We should try to get some rest," I said.

"Right. That reminds me." Slek pulled a screwdriver out of his pocket, rose, and crouched beside me. He undid the screws which held the row of seats in place and pushed it back as quietly as he could.

"If we're going to be here a while, we might as well get comfortable." He put the screwdriver away while Danec pulled out three spare pillows from the bunk room.

He tossed them into the empty space, then blushed. "Ummm."

"I'll sleep in the middle," I said, lying down.

Eyes wide, Danec lay down on one side, while Slek lay on the other. I faced Danec, who blushed even harder, before he placed a hand lightly on one of mine.

I gave him a soft smile, which he returned and made my heart flip.

Slek placed a hand on my hip, which made the rest of me flip.

"Good night," Danec whispered. His eyes flicked down to my lips. If I didn't know he wanted to be friends, I would think he wanted to kiss me. Instead, he swallowed hard and closed his eyes.

"Night," I said. Why was I so disappointed that he didn't kiss me? I was okay with being friends, wasn't I? Plus Slek's hand had moved to my ass. He cupped a cheek and gave it a squeeze.

Oh my goodness.

I closed my eyes and tried to sleep, while wishing Slek would move his hand down between my legs.

I fell asleep and dreamed of Slek, Danec, and J'avet, their hands all over me, mouths licking and sucking—

"Attention everyone."

I woke with a jolt. The pod's lights were on, suggesting it was morning, at least by someone's calculations. Considering the timing, I would guess J'avet's. Damn, dream him had been about to slide into—

"Pilot Brinley has informed me we don't have enough fuel to reach Denara." J'avet spoke from the front of the ship.

The evacuees let out a collective groan.

J'avet scowled at me as though the whole thing was my fault.

I hadn't even groaned. Except in my dream. I groaned a lot there. And moaned. Oh crap, had I moaned in my sleep? I glanced at Danec and Slek. They were sitting up, intent on what J'avet was saying.

I rubbed my eyes and tried to wake up more. I finally registered what J'avet said.

"We'll have to put down on Calig," J'avet said. "As most of you will know—" Again he glared at me, "Calig is unpopulated. The atmosphere is conducive to life, but resources are minimal. We will have to ration our food until the IF can reach us."

Danec raised a shaking hand. "Sir, will all the pods land there?"
