The side of Brinley's mouth drew back. "Let's hope the IF is there, waiting."

I agreed, but silently I was worried. What if they found Jones, but he claimed I was his accomplice? Nothing anyone said to J'avet would change his mind about me, I was sure of that. He'd send me straight back to Earth and that would be that.

It might come to that, but I would fight before it did. For some reason I couldn't explain, some tiny part of the back of my mind wanted to change his mind about me. The fact he hated me hurt, although it shouldn't. No part of me should care what an asshole thinks, especially with Danec and Slek on either side of me.
