"There it is." Brinley turned on the screen. At the edge was a dot. The dot was moving quickly and getting bigger by the moment. It soon became clear that whoever piloted the ship, she was a lot bigger than Gamma.

That made us the dot.

I peered closely at the screen. "Wait, is that…"

"It looks like it," Brinley agreed.

"Infinity," J'avet said.

"Wasn't she at Dendra Station, getting repaired?" From what Slek had said, she'd be there for months. I wasn't the best at adding up, but I was almost certain it hadn't been months since we left Dendra.

"She was." J'avet looked troubled. More than I ever saw him before.

That, in turn, made me worried. "Then why—"

"I don't know," he said, cutting me off. "Brinley, can you listen in to any conversations between Infinity and Gamma?"

"Sure. If they have any. So far, I'm not picking up anything from Infinity."

J'avet hesitated, then nodded. He stepped back and asked, "E'rel, have you finished upgrading the Iri scanner?"

I frowned and swivelled around in my chair. Iri scanner? That sounded very much like a Slek thing. My heart ached at the idea of anyone having to work on his creations. He should be here, with his ridiculously big muscles and ready smile. The guy's heart was at least as big as the rest of him. So was his goofy side.

I swallowed down a knot of emotion. I hadn't let myself wallow, because I knew it wouldn't help anyone, but I acutely missed all of the guys right now. How in the worlds would I choose one, when I cared about them all?

I sighed loudly.

"We'll get them back," Brinley said. "Whatever it takes, okay?"

I nodded. "I know, I just wish they were all here. If they were, we'd all be somewhere else." I frowned at my own, slightly confusing logic, but it made some kind of sense.

Brinley smiled. "I know what you mean. We'd all be on Agus by now. I hear they have bathtubs."

Now we both sighed.

"Here." E'rel pushed a long, thin device toward J'avet. "You need not plug it into anything, just aim and press that button. The screen there—" he pointed, "—will show Iri signatures."

"Nice work." J'avet said.

"I merely worked from the plans I was given." E'rel shrugged and moved back to his corner.

J'avet aimed the device toward the Infinity and pressed the button as E'rel said.

"One… two hundred life signs," he said, distracted by his attention on the small screen. "All Iritauri."

"Fuck," I muttered.

"Yes indeed," J'avet said. "They might have missed some nanobots when they cleared out the ship."

Or they'd invaded Dendra station, and who knows where else.

He didn't say any of that, but I was sure he was thinking it.

I was.

"Um," Brinley said. "They've launched a pod. It's on a course toward us."

"Increase our speed," J'avet said. "We need to get out of here."
