"Gamma would have told the IF," Rayax reasoned. “There's probably an armada a day or two away."

"I feel less than valued as a member of the IF," I said. "When this is over, I might have to have some words with the IF government." What sort of fuckers sent their people into what might be a trap, unconcerned about whether or not we live or die?

Oh, who was I kidding? Governments of Earth have done it since forever. The IF was no worse and no better. And, let's be real, they had the whole galaxy to think about. Eight of us were practically nothing, even if we were in my top eleven most amazing people in the galaxy.

"Get some rest," J'avet advised. "It's going to be a long night."

"Promises, promises," I said with a cheeky smile.

He smiled back and I saw in his eyes he'd rather be somewhere alone with me than out here.
