"Yes, you seem like fun; I might let you live. Besides, only a combination of hemitheos power will kill a goddess. As strong as you are, you are only one. With several consorts like you, we could kill all of the gods. Think of the power."

"Don't you have enough power?" I asked.

He sighed. "I am weakened by my time incarcerated, but no, I cannot do it alone." He stepped up to me and placed a finger under my chin.

"I know you must be eager to begin, so am I." He pressed his erect cock to the side of my leg. "But the child of a demigod has diluted blood. Once I kill my mother and my uncle, I will have their power. Perhaps I shall give some to you. Our children will rule worlds."

Wow, I thought Knox was presumptuous. He had nothing on this guy.

My stomach fluttered. I didn't want to take part in any more killing, or locking people away in stone boxes, but I wanted him so badly I wanted to scream. I wanted to beg him to fuck me up against the nearest wall.

My tongue darted over my lips.

He leaned in and whispered in my ear. "This is where you say, yes, Great One."

I snorted. "Whatever you say."

He laughed. "Feisty. I like it. I'm glad they didn't break you. I don't want a woman on her knees like a servant. I want an equal." He gave me a lopsided smile. "Although on your knees while you suck my cock is good too."

He sighed deeply. "I must go now, I need to rest. Remember, while we are apart, that you belong to me. Dream of me. Some day, when I'm ready, I'll come for you." He kissed my mouth, hard and firm.

Then somehow I found myself alone.

That lasted no more than a handful of moments. The sound of booted feet echoed up the stairs.

"What have you done?" The demand preceded the drawing of swords.

I turned and frowned at the soldiers who stood in the entrance, blades bare except for Knox. He wore the same confused expression as the rest of them.

My eyes took in Helene's body and I understood what they must have concluded.

"I didn't touch her," I insisted. "It was Comus. He killed her."

The soldiers looked disbelieving.

"And Luther?" their leader asked. A tall man, he bore a scar down one cheek and a mouth which looked as though he never smiled.

"He's in there." I nodded toward the sarcophagus.

"Open it." The soldiers stepped deeper inside.

"I can't. It takes three of us." Comus ensured I couldn't simply let Luther out.

The leader sheathed his sword and stepped toward it. He tugged at the lid, but it didn't move. He grunted and tried once more before he stepped away.

"Where is the Great One?"

"Gone," I replied, "I don't know where."

"That's unfortunate," the leader said. He nodded to his fellows. "Take her. She will stand trial for the murder of the Hemathea and hemitheos Luther."

I blinked. "But I—"

It was Knox who gripped my left arm. He gave me a warning look and pulled me toward the stairs.

"I swear to Hades I didn't harm either of them," I said, but I walked beside him without struggling.

"The court of hemitheos will determine that," the leader snapped.
