“Uh. Yeah. Thanks.” I offer Evie a small smile, which she returns.

“You’re Rhys George, right?” When I nod, Evie hands me some tissue to clean up the blood around my mouth and continues. “Well, Rhys, if you ever need help, call me.” She hands me a business card, and I frown down at it as I read the details.

Angel Org.

Empowering Women

Junior President - Evie Prattle

“What exactly do you do?” I glance back up to see her smile.

“Things like we did a few minutes ago. We speak up. We call people out. We empower women. Provide them support and help. I’m the junior president in this area, which means I look out for school-aged girls, but it doesn’t stop there. The senior division helps women escape violence and stand up to their harassers. They provide support, and they work alongside a lot of other charities who work tirelessly to help disadvantaged youth and things like that.”

“And you’d help me if I need it?”

“Yes,” she nods.

“But… You know who I am, right? Some might say I deserved what happened here today.”

“Why? Because you own your sexuality? That doesn’t give a guy the right to touch you without permission. It doesn’t give them the right to treat you like you don’t matter. You do matter, Rhys. We all do.” Evie tilts her head, her compassion almost overwhelming.

I smile. “My older sister would like you. She’s into this stuff.”

“If she’s into this stuff, then she’s probably already in our ranks.”

I nod, knowing she is likely right.

Evie and I chat a little more as the students thin out on the bus, and by the time my stop comes along, I don’t feel as rattled as I was earlier. For once, I don’t feel so alone. I know I have a group of guys and a handful of friends, but there’s just something settling knowing there‘s a group of people in our community speaking up. It’s definitely something I could get around.

Once I’m back home in my bedroom, I flop down on my bed and open my phone, working up the courage to send a response back to Master Hill. I’d love nothing more than to forget about his bullshit after the afternoon I’ve just had. I even consider whether Angel Org can help me out of this situation. Unfortunately, Terence Hill has cops in his pockets and too much leverage in our community. There’s nothing I can do but deal with this on my own.

I bite the bullet and respond to Master Hill.

Kitten

I’m not sure if I can make it. What will happen if I don’t come?

Master Hill

Then your sponsor will pay the price. And let me tell you, it’s a hefty one.

Shit! Fuck! Shitty! Fuck! Fuck!

Kitten

I’ll be there.

Master Hill

I know you will.

Ugh! Arrogant arsehole! What I’d give to smack the smug off his face.

“Fucking prick!”

“Who’s a fucking prick?”

I jump at the sound of Charlotte's voice behind me, darting my head around to see her in my doorway.
