The door swings open behind me, and I almost tumble in, but strong hands grip my shoulders, keeping me steady. “Your turn, baby girl.”

While I clean myself up, Char takes Garrett to the theatre room and puts on a movie. I don’t realise until I get there that she’s skipped halfway through, so it seems like we’ve been in that room the whole time watching it. Sneaky bitch.

Dad arrives home with the boys not long after, and the twins make it their mission to annoy the fuck out of us until Mum gets home with dinner. I’m almost sure my dad put them up to it.

I hold Garrett’s hand as I lead him to the table, which is filled with Chinese takeout. He’s so quiet. So different from the guy that made me ride his face earlier, but he’s polite and has impeccable manners, answering all the stupid questions the twins ask him.

“Do you like the crusts on your sandwiches?”

“Do you snort out your boogers or use a tissue?”

“Do you sometimes fart when you run?”

And the kicker… “Do you have sex with Rhysie?”

Fucking hell. That last question has my dad slamming his hand on the table like a fucking caveman, and the twins turn bright red, fogging up their glasses before they both start crying.

“Good one, Will.” Charlotte hisses, getting up from her seat and moving around the table to the boys. “You know that’s a trigger for them.”

Dad huffs, downing his glass of water while staring at his half-eaten plate of food.

“Dad didn’t mean to scare you, boys.” Mum gets up from her chair, moving to the boys too, shooting her husband a sympathetic look. “You really shouldn’t ask anyone that question, though. It’s very personal and private. Ok?”

The twins sob through their agreement, hugging my mum and sister while Will looks regretful.

“Ah… Should I go?” Garrett leans over and whispers, so I turn to him and shake my head.

“Please stay,” I whisper back.

I know he’s super uncomfortable right now, and I should let him escape, but I want to know he can handle the shit show that is my life. I also want the rents to see that things with us are serious. If they know more than they are letting on, then all my guys will have to prove themselves because there’s a point that Cin and Will are gonna have issues with me openly seeing more than one guy at a time. What parent wouldn’t be concerned about that?

My hand being squeezed tells me that he’s not going anywhere, offering me the same sort of support that Cin just offered Will. My heart squeezes because, more than anything, I want that.

“Boys,” Will speaks, gaining everyone’s attention. “I’m sorry for expressing my anger like that. It was uncalled for.” Then he turns his eyes to Garrett and me. “Garrett, my apologies for my outburst.”

“Ah, it’s fine, Mr Rogan.” Garrett shifts uncomfortably next to me, so I turn the attention to me. I’m good at that.

“It’s all good, Dad. The twins need to learn that some questions are inappropriate.” I pin them with a glare, and they both hunch down in their chairs while Charlotte squats between them. She’s very protective of the twins. It’s not lost on me that perhaps I need to learn that certain things are inappropriate, too. Like, say, talking to the class about Mickey Juice.

“Sorry.” Archie mumbles, and Connor nods, too scared to speak. It’s kind of heartbreaking seeing them cower like that. Lasting evidence from their past and something they work on daily to overcome.

Unfortunately, they still have to learn what’s right and wrong, and I don’t blame dad for losing his temper because I was about to do the same, but he beat me to it.

I watch my dad closely through the rest of dinner. Concern creases his brow, and his mind is too preoccupied to hold much conversation. I can’t help but think I am the cause. Aren’t I always the cause of the drama that goes on under this roof?

And just like that, the few hours of feeling my old self washes away, leaving a nervous, self-conscious, self-loathing shell behind.

The thought of food makes me physically ill. I can’t bear putting even a crumb in my mouth, despite my achingly empty tummy. I tossed all night, not able to sleep even after Garrett had left me thoroughly sated with another intense O in the theatre room before his mum picked him up. That guy is fucking amazing with his tongue, fingers and cock. If only it were enough to get me through today.

My right leg has been in a seizing jitter ever since we left Fox Pines early this morning for the long car ride over to the other side of the city where Allansdale Prison looms. The two messages I received first thing really fucking added to my freak out. One of the messages I show to the olds because it’s from Julie. The other, I keep to myself because it’s from Tyler, and I’m sure the olds would lose their shit over that one. Out of the two, I don’t know which one freaks me out more.

Fuck You Julie

If I don’t see you walking into that prison today, then you’d better prepare for your school buddies to learn all about Patrice!
