Page 43 of Tainted Kitten

I watch Rhys from the corner of my eye as she grins up at the vast space, the shutter of her camera clicking before she sits down on a boulder off to the side. The cavern is cool, a nice reprieve from the afternoon sun, and I watch Rhys sit her camera on the boulder, take the cap off her water bottle and pour some of the liquid over the back of her neck.

“Hot Kitten?” Bossi asks, and I feel like punching the fucker. Every time I hear him call her Kitten, my blood boils. And surprisingly, every time I see how she responds to that name, my madness eases a little. She likes being called Kitten. She told me she likes it when I call her Rhee as well. I like that she likes that, and fuck, I think I like that she likes Kitten as well.

My head is seriously screwed up right now.

“You’re growling again,” Simon whispers next to my ear, and I flinch.

Jesus! Fuck!

I drop my eyes from Rhys as Bossi approaches her, knowing too well he’s probably about to kiss her. Part of me wants to kill him for laying his lips on her, but the other part of me, which I don’t fucking understand yet, likes to watch how she responds. My dick gets hard to see her get turned on by someone else, and isn’t that just fucked up?

See! I have no fucking idea what to make of any of this.

“Why’d you declare that you’re one of her guys if you can’t even watch one of her other guys show her attention?” Garrett’s voice is low, so only Hastings and I can hear, and I snap my eyes up to his, letting him see my anger.

“I don’t fucking know.”

Garrett frowns, tilting his head to the side while he studies me. “Hmmm, I think you do know, but you’re struggling to accept it.”

“What the fuck does that mean?” I hiss a little too loudly, and Bossi pulls away from his lip-lock with my girl to look over his shoulder at me.

My eyes glance past Shaun, noticing a flicker of nervousness across Rhys’ face. She shifts back from Bossi a little, her brows tugging in as she glances down at the space she put between them.

“You really should talk to us, man. That shit helps.” Simon pipes up, and I shoot him a dagger.

“Oh really?Ishould talk aboutmyfeelings? What aboutyou,Hastings? You haven’t spoken about what’s going on with your parents. Why don’t you give the talking thing a go?”

I’m an arsehole. I know. I never used to be, but I fucking am now.

“Fine.” Simon shrugs. “They’re getting divorced, and they haven’t made a decision on me yet. My old man wants to live in London, and my mum wants to move back to Perth to be close to her sister. They haven’t once asked me what I fucking want.” Simon glares, his playful nature nowhere in sight. “Does that make you happy, Grady?”

“No, it doesn’t. Sorry, man.” I feel like shit. And I should too. I’m a fucking prick, and I’m going to lose my mates if I don’t pull my fucking head in.

Rhys and Shaun have made their way over to us now, and Rhys steps in front of Simon, cupping his face and pulling him to her in a heartfelt hug. His breathing is deep and quick, his revelation upsetting him. Rhys’ arms help him, though. The moment she has her arms locked around him, he relaxes into her hold and buries his head in the crook of her neck.

Fuck. Maybe she is good for all of us?

Maybe we can do this sharing thing?

“Sorry,” I say again, but this time I look at my three mates, wanting them to see that the apology is for each of them. They give me a nod, all while Rhys stays wrapped around Simon like a vice. It’s only a moment later when she pulls back a little and speaks to Simon quietly before kissing him.

It feels wrong to watch this, yet I can’t fucking help myself. Maybe I like killing myself on the inside, torturing myself. All I know is that I want her to kiss me like that again.

“Should we… talk?” Shaun asks, and Rhys darts back from Simon, shaking her head.

“Nope.” She skips back over to the boulder she was sitting on before and climbs back up to retake her seat.

“Come on, Kitten. You know the five of us should probably clear the air a little and maybe set some boundaries.” Shaun approaches her, but as he gets near, she draws her legs up to her chest and wraps her arms around them, effectively closing herself off from him.

What’s going on there? It’s not a very Rhys-like move.

“I don’t do rules, Bossi. Rules are suffocating.”

“Ok, I get that, but we just declared that we are all your guys, so we should discuss a few things. Don’t you think?”

She shakes her head at Shaun, and Garrett chuckles.

“Dude, haven’t you learnt anything about her yet? She won’t talk about the hard stuff willingly.” Garrett sits on a rock opposite Rhys, and he shoots her a wink, but she just rolls her eyes.
