“Ugh.” I lull my head back dramatically before returning my gaze to Lexi.

“I want details.” I point at her chest, and when she grins and winks at me, I poke my tongue out at Ayden and walk off with Marcus.

“What was that about?”

“Nothing important,” I smirk, and he squints accusingly.

“Just a heads up. Cynthia seems a little off.”

I stop abruptly at Marcus’ words, looking from him, then past our group of friends to find Cynthia standing by the car. Her hands are twisting together nervously as she pretends to listen to Jared’s mum, and the moment her eyes land on me, she plants a fake smile on her face.

“You’re right. She does seem off.” I agree, not wanting to find out. Cynthia is a strong woman. She has been through her own trauma growing up and works hard to create a home with Will for us kids, so to see the normally put together woman acting nervous is making me nervous.

“I’m sure it’s nothing.” Marcus gives my fingers a little squeeze, and I glance up at him, nodding, pretending to agree. “Can I call you tonight?”

Smiling, I nod. “Yes. I’d like that.”

I can tell he wants to kiss me, but with all the adults around, it’s not a good idea. They think I’m seeing Shaun. I don’t think they’re ready to acknowledge a multiple-partner relationship, even though Cin knows a little about Simon and Garrett already. It’s ok, though. The guys all kissed me thoroughly before the rents arrived, so that will have to get me through the rest of the day.

We all say our goodbyes before filling the various cars to return to reality. When I approach my parents, my dad dodges making eye contact with me, while my mum glances at me with something that looks very much like sympathy.

The squeals of the twins capture my attention as they take turns at doing blowfish on the windows from inside the car, and when I glance back at Cin, she’s turned and opened the back door for me to climb in.

“Did you have a good time?” She asks, and I smile and nod as I slip into the car.

“The best,” I admit, and her smile broadens.

For the first ten minutes of the drive, the questions from my parents are very generic, and I don’t even think they’re taking in my answers. For the next ten minutes, I stay quiet, leaning my head against the window, watching the ferns and tall gums swoosh by on the windy roads. A half an hour in, my phone chimes with incoming messages. Finally. Phone service again.

I have a heap of messenger messages, but I don’t recognise the name of the group ‘Guess Who’, so I move over to Snapchat to see messages coming in from the guys, plus Lexi and Tillie.

I open Lexi’s first.

Lexi West

Are you ok?

Rhys George

Yeah. Why?

Lexi doesn’t reply straight away, so I open Tillie’s.

Tillie Hall

They are all crazy!

Rhys George

Who are they? And why are they crazy?

When she doesn’t reply straight away, I open the guys' group chat,Cherry’s Merry Men.

Casanova

Don’t read the comments, Kitten.
