She seemed broken. She had undoubtedly set her heart on having me married as she continued to look for a cure. No offers would be coming my way, she knew.

‘So, you have changed your mind. You want to stay here now, huh, Razuku?” I teased.

“I will go anywhere the prince asks me to go,” he said fervently. I believed him.

“Your Highness, you are not like what they say,” Eli breathed out. His puppy dog eyes looked at me admiringly. I almost patted his head tenderly.

“Like what?” I asked, curious.

Razuku gave Eli a warning look, but the boy seemed eager to share. I nodded at him encouragingly.

“They say you are vain and haughty,” he said, blushing.

Razuku gave him a hard slap on his shoulder, to which he reacted with an “Ouch!”

I giggled. Then, the giggle became a howl.

The Arrowspear citizens stared at me, perplexed.

“I am so sorry. Sometimes, you just have to laugh at things people say about you,” I explained, wiping tears from my eyes.

“Your Highness, I am sorry,” Eli said. “I am sorry that those rumors have hurt you.”

“No, Eli. You do not have to apologize. I was laughing because they were not rumors. They were – are – true. I am vain. Everyone knows that.” I smiled.

“At least I have heard you confirm the rumors before we get married,” a deep voice said.

I turned to see Metheus standing a few feet behind me. He was back. A wide grin broke on my face.
