“I believe he is,” Diana said, her voice strained. “Stay away from him.”

Diana did not have to tell me twice, and yet, I wanted to know why he would go under my husband’s radar. Ari might be something more, but at the very least, he was a traitor. Could Metheus have sent him here? It did not seem likely. Before King Doro’s feast, I had only ever seen him around the Arrowspear palace once, and it was a fleeting affair.

I walked out into the courtyard and was not surprised to see Razuku there. Of course. It seemed there would be less work in the fields. He had trained many Queenspell men to work alongside his Arrowspear men. The drought was also lifting.

“Your Majesty, good morrow,” he bowed.

“Good morrow, Razuku,” I answered simply.

“Ari is here, is he not?” he asked, a frown on his face.

“Do you think your king would have sent him?”

“Never!” The frown made way to a spark of greater anger.

“Why?”

“Ari may appear to be a friend, but he despises the People of Rama. He looks down on our swarthier complexion. Metheus is half from Rama, but he is a king and fairer than most of us. Still, I know Ari’s hatred of him had always been there.”

“Do you think Metheus knows?”

“Of course, he knows. I assure you, Your Majesty, Ari will be the last person your husband will send to watch over you.”
