He spent long moments, euphoric and lightheaded. Slowly coming down, he realized Faye stroked his hair as he languidly thrusted into her. His mouth still at her neck.

Her blood on his tongue.

“I love you,” Faye sighed, leaning up to nuzzle the Ra’Voshnik. “Both of you.”

Rune licked his bite a final time before healing it. He gazed down at the woman fate gifted him. The queen he chose and served. Who embraced every part of him without fear or hesitation. “Everything I am is yours, my love.”

“Until our last breath,” the Ra’Voshnik promised, shifting her consciousness back into her physical body.

Faye blinked and turned in his arms. He bent to kiss her and stopped. Touching his forehead to hers instead. Vampires shared blood kisses. His night breeze wasn’t one of his kind.

Faye lifted her mouth to his as her wings curved around him. Rune groaned as her tongue stroked into his mouth. He’d expected her to pull away at the taste. She leaned into him, deepening the kiss instead.

Perfectly suited.

The warmth from her wings faded around him. Rune pulled back as her wings darkened, becoming swirling black mist holding the shape of wings. It thinned and dissipated, fading from sight entirely.

“I don’t know how to keep them out,” Faye said.

Rune brought her hand to his mouth, kissing her fingertips. “It takes time.” He pressed his lips to her index finger. “We do have to do something about your naked finger,” he said and was rewarded by her soft laugh. Rune pulled her in, kissing her softly as he held her close. “I have a jeweler coming this evening. Let me draw you a bath.” He gently laid her down and rose.

Faye turned her head, watching Rune walk into the bathroom. She finally understood Sparrow’s obsession with ogling Vashien. Faye sighed still tingling from Rune and Voshki’s attentions.

Rune returned a short time later. He leaned over her, kissing her as he lifted her into his arms. Faye laughed, breaking their kiss. “I can walk.”

“And I can carry you,” Rune answered, lowering her into the oversized tub.

Faye sighed as the heat of the water seeped into her. She glanced up at Rune, sinking lower into the steam. “There’s room for us both.”

The corner of Rune’s mouth lifted into that cocky smirk she grew to love. “I will join you in a moment. I have been neglecting my correspondence with the High Council.”

Then he vanished. Naked.

“This man,” Faye laughed to herself. She sank lower letting the water come up to her chin. Her black hair drifting around her. Rune materialized a moment later holding a stack of documents. Faye sat up, making room for him behind her. “You just phase around naked?”

Rune arched a brow at her as he got in the tub and pulled her back to rest against his chest. “I am in my home.”

“Sparrow is nosey. What if she saw you?”

Rune rested his arms in front of her, opening expensive looking letters written in aggressive script she couldn’t read. “Some find my coloring unagreeable. I may apologize.”

Faye giggled, flicking water over her shoulder at him. He kissed the back of her head and continued opening the letters. On the third Rune cursed in High Tongue.

Faye turned her head in his direction. When he didn’t answer she said, “You taught me what that means. What’s the matter?”

“Alister.”

His brother’s name chilled her. The memory of his cold steel at her throat too fresh. Faye sat forward turning to Rune, unnerved by his grave expression.

“He’s requesting your formal acknowledgement.”

Chapter eighty-one

Runeleanedinthedoorway separating their rooms, dressed in his customary tailored black suit. Hellfire flickered over him, lighting the edge of his white-blonde hair with a soft blue light.

Darkness, he was gorgeous, and he belonged to her. She bit the inside of her lip, wondering if the possessive desire was something she inherited with her powers, or if it would ease back into the attraction she felt for him in the beginning.
