“Wait, what? Why would you say that?”

“Because Spotlight is your place. And I don’t want to, like, invade your life, Tilly. I mean, you can’t even tell your best friend that we’re back together.”

“There it is,” I said. My words were slurred, but in my mind, I was making a point. “You are still pissed at me. I knew it!”

“No, I’m just saying, I don’t want to take a job there and have it come between us or something. I was trying to be considerate. I know that’s not your strong suit.” His tone was acerbic, and it stung.

“What?” I screeched, totally taken aback. “What the hell does that mean?”

“Just forget it, okay? I don’t want to fight with you.”

“Well, I didn’t want to fight either, but those were fightingwords, Wyatt. So, say what you have to say.”

“Not here. Not now. I don’t want to be that couple that gets drunk and fights at parties. That’s not us, Tilly.”

“Who’s drunk? I’m not drunk.”

“Bullshit.”

“For real, I’m totally fine.”

“Look, I’m sorry I said that about you being inconsiderate. I’ll drop it, okay?” He took my hand in his. My gut reaction was to pull away, and then I remembered how much I adored Wyatt and that I didn’t want to be the reason the argument continued.

“I want to dance,” I said, pulling him toward the door. “Will you dance with me?”

“Yeah,” he said with a soft smile and followed me into the living area of Henry’s apartment.

Weezer’s “Buddy Holly” was starting just as Sully and Hannah walked into the party. Sully put both hands in the air as they crossed the apartment.

“Weezer!” Sully yelled to me, and I threw my head back in laughter, dancing to the beat and singing along with the band. Wyatt put his hand on my hip as we danced with Hannah, Ronnie, and Dutch. Sully pretended to tip an invisible cup to his mouth and pointed to the kitchen.

Lost in the lyrics, I was finally relaxing in the moment and enjoying my time with Wyatt. We’d both had enough to drink, and it was making us amorous and flirty. His lips lingered on my neck as we danced, his hand clutching my ass. Closing my eyes, I melted into the feel of him, pulling him closer as we swayed to the beat.

Just as the song was wrapping up, I opened my eyes.

“Oh, my God,” I said, putting my hand over my mouth.

Dutch and Ronnie were making out just a few feet away. Ronnie held Dutch’s cheeks in her hands as they devoured one another.

“Whoa,” Wyatt said. “That’s…surprising.”

“Whatever floats their boat, right?” I said, giving him a kiss.

“Guess so,” he said with a chuckle.

I wrapped my arms around his neck. “You float my boat, Johansen.”

Wyatt smiled, wrapping his arms around my waist. “And you float mine.” His expression turned serious. “I don’t want us to sink, Tilly.”

“We won’t.” I shook my head, then kissed him deeply on the lips, pulling him closer and running my fingers through his hair. He moaned and stroked my tongue with his own. “I promise.”

“Want to get out of here?”

“I can’t,” I said. “There’s only one more apartment before the party comes to my place.”

“It won’t take long,” he said, raising his eyebrows, then nuzzling my neck.

I looked up at the ceiling, savoring the feel of his lips on the spot just below my ear. Normally, it would tickle, but with the alcohol pumping aggressively through my veins, it simply turned me on. Big time.

“Make-up sex, huh?” I asked. “Tempting.”

“Come on. No one will miss us,” he said in a low growl. Goose bumps rose on my arms, and I kissed him. Hard.

“Let’s go,” I said, heat and desire rushing through every cell of my body. “Right now.”
