“Um, I call bullshit. You’d better be there, Ru.” Dahlia turned to me. “Are you free Saturday?”

“I think so,” I said.

“No pressure,” she replied. “She’s a nice girl—I promise. Very cute, too.”

“Great,” I said with a tight-lipped smile.

Maybe it’s time to stop pretending to move on and actually do it.

“Sup?” My roommate, Jeremy, said, barely looking up from his textbook. This was a pretty standard greeting from the introverted guy I’d lived with for six months. Even after all this time, I didn’t know much about him.

Jeremy was clean and quiet. And he had little to no interest in forging a friendship with me or any other people on the floor. Instead, he preferred to study and talk to girls on AOL.

Aside from going to class and eating his meals, I’m not sure he ever left our room, which always made me feel like I was invading his space, even though the room belonged to both of us.

“Sup,” I replied, throwing my backpack at the end of my bed and pulling out my sketch pad. I grabbed a can of Coke from the fridge and placed it on my desk, standing in front of my CD collection housed in the bookcase above the cluttered space.

“You care if I listen to something?” I asked, running my fingers over the plastic CD cases.

“Nope.”

His standard answer. Jeremy never listened to music himself but didn’t care when I did. We were an odd pairing if I’d ever seen one. Shaking my head, I stopped at my favorite Dr. Dre disc, but then another CD caught my eye. With a sigh, my hand slid across the CDs and landed on one I hadn’t listened to in months. One I couldn’t even believe that I bought.

One that always made me think of her.

Maybe I was torturing myself. Or maybe I’d grown to love it.

Either way, as if on autopilot, I pulled out the plastic case and popped in the CD. The familiar sound of “My Name is Prince” came booming from the player. With a sigh, I sat down, popped the top on the Coke, and went back to the sketch of the girl with the red, curly hair.

The girl named Tilly.
