“‘All right, all right, all right,’” Dutch said in his best Matthew McConaughey voice.

“Dazed and Confused, right?” Wyatt asked, looking amused. I had learned that Dutch was the reigning champion of movie quotes at Spotlight. And if you recognized one, he was likely to throw out another from the same film. I froze in place, awaiting the next line.

Dutch nodded. “‘That’s what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older…’”

He raised both eyebrows, and he and Wyatt said the next line in unison. “‘They stay the same age.’”

“Ugh,” I said, pretending to be annoyed as they gave each other a high five.

“I like this guy, Weezer,” Dutch said, patting Wyatt on the back. “Hey, you looking for a job, because—”

“I don’t think we’re hiring at the moment,” I said, cutting him off, my heart going a mile a minute. I knew that if Wyatt worked at Spotlight and I was forced to work shifts with him, I would crack. There was no way I’d be able to resist him. No. I had to keep my distance. I had to stay in control. Going for coffee was one thing, but being coworkers…

Absolutely not.

Dutch’s eyes went blank with confusion. “Are you sure, because I thought Hannah said that—”

Ignoring Dutch, I turned to Wyatt. “Ready to go?”

Wyatt shook his head, holding back a laugh. “Yep.”

“I just have to clock out. I’ll meet you outside, okay?”

“Sure thing,” Wyatt said.

“See!” Dutch said, touching his forehead. “It’s a sign! You have to put The Sure Thing on your shelf.”

Wyatt looked confused, and I waved him away. “I’ll explain later.”

“I’m moving it to your shelf,” Dutch said, grabbing the movie.

“Whatever, Dutch!” I yelled as I walked to the back room, shaking my head in annoyance. When I reached the time clock, Naomi entered, as well.

“You two have got chemistry, girl.” She fanned her face like she was burning up.

“What?” I scoffed, breaking eye contact.

“Oh, my God. I saw you two together, so don’t even try to pretend you don’t know what I’m talking about. When he said he was here for you…rawr.” She held up her hand like it was a tiger’s paw.

“Did you just growl at me?”

“Damn straight. Now, go have some coffee and keep an open mind.”

“Nope,” I said, shaking my head. “I’m as closed as can be.”

Naomi sighed dramatically. “Here.”

She grabbed a pen and Post-It note from Hannah’s desk. “Call me later. I want to know everything.”

“And what if there’s nothing to tell?” I asked, pursing my lips together and raising both eyebrows.

“Somehow, I doubt it. And if so, call me anyway.” She shrugged as I placed her number in my pocket.

“Okay, I will. But not because I think something’s going to happen or anything.” I paused. “Because it’s not.”

“Whatever you say. Now go. Your hottie is waiting!”

I rolled my eyes. “Okay, okay.”
