He spun on his heel, teeth clenched. “How the fuck can we help her if she’s lying to us?” What-the-hell-ever. He threw a dismissive hand up and kept on walking when Roman did nothing but give him a flat stare back. The lying would stop tonight.

Lightning tore through the sky flashing through the sheer curtains. Wild green eyes jumped to him and he stopped halfway to her room. Rhia stood shaking in the darkened hallway, fear ingrained in her expression

“What’s going on?” she asked in a small voice.

Matteo moved deeper into her apartment and didn’t stop until he had her pinned to the wall. Her slight form trembled in his hands. Water shimmered along the fringes of her eyes. He cupped her face, placing his palms on either side. Heated fury cooled only to be replaced with raw, unbanked need to protect the fragile bird in his hands.

“Que Dios me perdona,” he murmured close to her mouth, eliciting a tremor from her.

Her hands came up to rest on his. “Where’s Roman?”

“Behind me,” he husked.

Her gaze sought Roman’s a beat before coming back to his. “Why do you need God to forgive you?”

He captured her mouth with his, wrapping a hand around her throat. His tongue swept over her plump bottom lip and she opened for him.

Heat flashed in her eyes when he broke away telling him her soul might bring the light to his but she had a dark side too.

The monster in him grinned.
