Indigo pressed the tip of the gun to Maya’s temple and Rhia could only watch as her friend turned ghostly pale. She appeared strung out and her body not fully under her own control. Her eyes were still open and her chest rose and fell with her breathing, but the glassy look that overtook her eyes freaked Rhia out more than anything had yet.

“Seraphina, what is she talking about?” Maya wrapped her fingers around the arm that held her in place, her face pinched with confusion.

“I’m not who I said I was. I’m Rhia Crowne. Indigo killed my father.”

“Wrong.” Indigo tsked.

“I didn’t have the pleasure of searing the traitor when he backed out of our deal. But I wish I had been the one to strip him of his skin and burn his insides. I would have loved to have licked his blood off my blade.”

Rhia’s stomach revolted against her insides the longer Indigo spoke. Every syllable carried through the silence and vibrated with pure hatred. No, not hatred that would mean the maniacal blonde would need a heart. That bitch spewed evil thick and as deadly as a tar pit.

Maya blinked rapidly and caught Rhia’s attention. She flicked her eyes to the open window in her room.

Something lunged from the shadows at the same time Maya dropped her weight, pulling Indigo off her feet. The second Maya found the safety of her room, Rhia let bullets fly. She strained her ears to try to hear if Maya made it to the fire escape but she didn’t have time to worry. She whirled around heading for the back door but only made it a few steps when a hand tangled in her hair and brought her up short.

“Get the fuck, back here.”

Pain seared her scalp. Rhia reached around and grabbed at Indigo but she quickly dropped her hand when the barrel of the gun slipped beneath her chin.

“Beg for your life. I want to see you on your knees begging me not to put a bullet through your brain.”

Indigo pressed hard, forcing Rhia’s chin higher. Blistering fear shot through her. “Indigo, please.”

Rhia’s heart seized. She didn’t want to die.
