“We’ve been talking. Haven’s doors will stay open. To, as Rhia put it, keep the enemy close. We’d love to keep you on. Work with us.”

“I’ll think about it.”

And just as quickly as he strolled in, her new friend was gone.

“Shadows.”

“Excuse me?”

“You all are born from the shadows and darkness but there’s light in you too.”

Sevastyan wrapped her in his arms, tucking her under his chin. The safest place on this forsaken planet. Maybe not forsaken. Not anymore. Not with her dark kings to protect her.

“You’re our light. With you by our sides, we’ll not stray too far into the darkness.”

“Take me to Lucian. I need to be with him. He needs me.”

Matteo nodded and scooped her up. Sevastyan manning the IV feed, they helped her to Lucian’s room.

She still couldn’t believe she’d found her forever in the arms of her enemies.

Matteo eased her on the bed beside Lucian and she wrapped her arms around him, careful of his bandages.

“Sweetheart,” he murmured. “We’re going to be okay.”

“I know we are. We have each other. We’re a force to be reckoned with.”

Lucian chuckled lightly. “Damn straight.” He sounded weak and looked like hell but he’d get strong again. They stayed like that for hours. Her holding Lucian. Matteo by the window looking out. Sevastyan on his phone and Roman at the foot of the bed, his hand on her leg. He needed constant contact and she could live with that. Her hand settled in his and she wound their fingers together. The road they were setting out on would be full of turmoil, and she held no expectations of what lay ahead for them would be easy. But they had each other and she looked forward to every moment. Her soulmates were born in shadows and she pulled them to the light.

They balanced each other and that was all she needed.
