Put It In Writing

Chloe

Seattle, Washington

7 weeks pregnant

Ten minutes before noon, I stood outside Tyler’s office. Still on edge after his lust-filled touches in the basement, I placed my phone on silent and double-checked my inbox.

Everything was updated except an email Hazel sent four minutes ago. The subject line, “Help Me! A REAL Emergency,” didn’t compel me to answer it anytime soon.

Tucking it into my purse, I pushed Tyler’s door open and quickly shut it behind me.

Now wearing a bespoke suit that sent my hormones on another wild adventure, he was sitting behind his desk.

“Have a seat, Miss March,” he said.

“I’d rather stand.”

He shot me a pointed look, and I walked over to the chair, taking a seat.

“Thank you.” He handed me a printed blue sheet.

“I’ve done my best to make this very simple,” he said, and I noticed that there were only a few bolded points.

Medical Care

Financial Assistance

Living Quarters

Career

Drugs

Etc.

“I’ll pay all your medical expenses, and my private doctor will text you some questions soon,” he said. “She’s flying over to the States in a few weeks, and she’ll stay until you give birth. I’ll attend all your appointments as well. Will that suffice?”

“Yes. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” he said. “I’ve also set up a private trust fund for the baby that’ll earn interest for him or her until they reach the age of twenty-five.”

“You should set up two of those.”

“Why?” he asked. “Would you like a trust fund of your own? At age thirty?”

“No.” I rolled my eyes. “I want separate ones for each of our children.”

“You’ve already suggested—foolishly—that there won’t be any more sex between us, Miss March. As flattered as I am to hear that you want another child by me before you even give birth to this one—”

“I’m pregnant with twins.” I cut him off. “Your arrogance really needs to be turned down a notch.”

“And you really need to work on when and how you deliver information to me.” He blinked a few times. “Twins?”

“Yes, twins. As in two babies.”

I couldn’t quite read the expression on his face, but I was certain that it mirrored exactly how I looked when the doctor handed me the ultrasound.
