“Show me his pic then,” he said.

I passed him the phone and scrolled to the handsome headshot of my date.

“Mm… he’s hot. And he’s an investment banker. Money, I imagine.”

I nodded. “Probably not as filthy rich as Chase, though.”

“You’re gorgeous, Ives, you can get anyone you want. You’re only twenty-five. Why don’t you just go with the flow?”

“What would you do?” I asked.

“I’d have Chase’s big fat sausage in my mouth right now as we speak.”

I laughed and slapped his arm. “You’re such a man-whore.”

He held up his palms. “Hey… I’m a happily married man.”

“You were, though, before Ambrose made you an honest man.”

He smiled sweetly. Liam’s life had turned around. Once upon a time, it was a swinging door of lovers; we even used to compare notes about our hookups.

“I am happier than I’ve ever been. We’re even talking about having a child.”

I smiled. “You’ll make a great dad.”

“Mother, sweetie. I’m the bitch in this relationship.”

I laughed.

“Have you at least tried talking to Chase about it?” he asked.

“Nope. He keeps calling, though.”

“Talk to him then.”

I shrugged. “I’m just scared. I’ve fallen hard for him. It’s not a game anymore.”

“Well, if he keeps calling, he must feel the same,” he said with a sympathetic voice. “Are you dating someone else to force his hand?”

“Maybe. Chase’s ego is even bigger than mine. I think it would piss him off to see me dating other guys, whereas he’s got ‘player’ etched into his DNA.”

“That’s why you guys connect. You’re really alike in many ways. You both love a game.”

I nodded slowly. “It’s time I grew up.” I puffed out a breath. “But what do I do about Mom? If I don’t hook up with Eric tonight, I’ll have to go home and face her.”

“Even the way you say his name. Your heart’s not in it. You need to talk to Chase before you start hooking up with new guys.”

“He’s hot, though, don’t you think?”

“Yeah. He is. But you’re crazy about Chase.”

I stood up. “Okay. It’s time to face them all. Mother. My ex. And Chase.”

Liam walked me to the door and gave me a hug.

“Now, don’t do an Ivy and jump to conclusions. Take a deep breath, let them explain. Promise?”

I kissed his soft cheek, taking away Liam’s signature sweet cologne. “Thanks for being here for me. I feel a little calmer.”
