“He’s a jerk,” I said. “Why are you with him?”

“It’s none of your business,” she fired back. “Besides, it sounds like you’re the jerk. He didn’t fuck your girlfriend.” Her lips curled up slowly. “Yet.”

My eyes popped out of their sockets. “Yet? Oh, for fuck’s sake, Ivy, you don’t want to go there.”

“Don’t tell me who I can or cannot sleep with,” she said, her cheeks turning red. “You slept with his girlfriend. What does that make you?”

I rubbed my neck. “She jumped into bed with me. It was dark. I was drunk.”

“Oh, how original.” She rolled her eyes. “Roll out the drunk excuse.”

“But can’t you see what he’s doing?”

“You think he’s only interested in me to get back at you?” She tilted her head with a frown.

I opened my hands. “Isn’t that obvious?”

“Oh. My. God.” She shook her head. “Is it too hard to believe he may actually find me attractive? And just because you had ulterior motives for playing loved-up boyfriend doesn’t mean all men are like you.”

“It’s not difficult to believe. You’re gorgeous, intelligent, sexy, and I want you back. I’m not myself without you, Ivy. I want you back.”

“Excuse me, what was that?” Her lips curled slowly.

She seemed to enjoy watching me grovel.

I took her hand. “I want you back in my life. I miss you.”

Ivy yanked her hand away. “Too fucking late. You shouldn’t have used me.” She was about to walk away. “Out of curiosity, when would you have divorced me? After one or two years?”

I scratched my stubbled jaw. “I know it doesn’t look good, but I was actually into us being married.” I paused to collect my thoughts and choose my words carefully. “At first, it was for my father’s benefit. But after the spa, I saw how good we were together. I’ve fallen for you, Ivy.” I swallowed tightly. “I love you.”

Her eyes widened slightly. For a moment, we even shared a hypnotic moment.

Breaking the spell, she went to turn away. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to have another drink with Jack.”

I grabbed her arm gently. “You’re not going to sleep with him, are you?”

“That’s none of your business.” Off she went, swaying those hips, as though deliberately reminding me of what I would be missing.

I don’t need fucking reminding.

My veins iced. I missed her all right.

Refusing to leave things there, I stormed over to Jack, whose rare smile lit up that room. He was loving this.

I pointed in his face. “You fucking hurt Ivy, and I’ll rearrange that smirk.”

He laughed coldly. “Now you know how it feels.”

I studied him for a moment. Knowing Jack’s tastes in women generally gravitated toward brunettes, I asked, “Tell me, do you even like Ivy?”

His mouth twitched up at one end. “She’s okay, I guess. A little loud. Her tits are a bit smaller than I like, but she’s got a great ass.”

I grabbed him by the scruff of his neck. “Listen, you fucking prick, walk away.”

He shoved me off. “Don’t fucking touch me.”

Ivy stepped in and stood between us. “Stop it.” She turned to me. Her wide eyes filled with anger, Ivy pointed to the door. “Leave.”
