Squaring my shoulders, I took a deep breath and went to claim what was mine.

Seething frustration at my inability to navigate this squeamish game of pretence, I muttered, “Don’t you fucking dare, Savvie.”
“Oh, you are.” She poked at me. “She’s gorgeous. You could do worse.”
“Mm… tell me about it. Don’t tell Mother, whatever you do. And it’s just a fling.”

Savanah scrutinised me. Head inclined. “I think it’s more than that,” she sang with a delighted smile. “Anyway, you better go and rescue her, because that guy’s all over her, and he’s kinda hot.”
My jaw clamped. “Thanks for the advice, sis.”
