I froze. What was I to tell him?

“I know about the photos,” he said.

My mouth dropped open. “You do? But your mother promised. We had a deal.”

“She didn’t show me. Will did, after I pressed him.” He splayed his hands. “Why didn’t you speak to me?”

“Your mother threatened to publish those photos if I continued to see you. My career would have been destroyed.” My mouth trembled as I fought back sobs.

He took my hand. “Listen, those photos aren’t of you.”

My eyebrows gathered. “But how would you know that? I know they’re not me. That is, except for the one in the mirror.”

“I visited the club and spoke to a tall blonde Eastern European woman.”

“You met Tania? She’s the one that drugged me.”

“She denies it. She doesn’t know who did, but I wouldn’t put it past that snake, Crisp.”

I sighed. “No, I wouldn’t either. He’s turning into a fucking pest.”

His frown deepened. “Has he been stalking you?”

“You could say that.” I thought of what he’d just told me and looked into his eyes. “Thank you.”

“You can press charges, you know? Against Reynard. I’ll pay for a good lawyer.”

I shook my head. “No. I want it over.”

“I got her to remove your image from her files.”

“How?” she asked.

“With cash.”

“Oh, god. I’ve cost you so much, haven’t I? I guess your mother told you about the money?”

“She did.” He ran his thumb along his bottom lip. “At first, it upset me. But I’ve never wanted for anything, so I’m not in a position to make harsh judgements.”

“I still feel like shit about it.” I took a breath. “It’s been plaguing me for weeks. I was planning on repaying it. Bit by bit. I’ve got a part-time job, and I should graduate in a year, and after that—”

He leaned in and kissed me gently on the lips. A chaste kiss. But the warmth and softness made me forget everything.

“No need to pay it back. And if it will make you feel better, I will draw up a check and give it to my mother, on your behalf.”

Floating on a high after that sweet-tasting kiss, I took a moment to respond. “Can you afford that? I would prefer to owe you than your mother.”

He opened out his arm, and I leaned into his firm body. “I’m a billionaire in my own right, Theadora. There’s no need to fret. It’s yours. Do as you wish with it.”

“That doesn’t feel right. I want to pay you back. I wasn’t with you for money.”

He looked into my eyes, and tears splashed over my cheeks.

“There is something you could do,” he said, wiping my tears with his T-shirt, revealing that six-pack of coiled muscle that released a silent sigh from my chest.

“What’s that?” I gazed up at him.

“I want you to move in with me.”
