Carson instructed and then demonstrated, and I’m sure I could hear my sister moaning. I narrowed my eyes at her.

“What?” she asked. “Can’t a girl drool?”

I chuckled. “I’m sure you can do more than that. Just go easy on him. He’s a sensitive guy.”

“Carson? Really?” She squinted in the sunlight.

“Alpha on outside, beta on inside,” I said.

“Mm… I’ll bear that in mind. I’m not interested, though.”

“Hey, you should make this a regular event. Like a live performance. Can you get them to fight? Or wrestle?” Ethan asked.

I turned to Theadora, who giggled at my brother’s silly suggestion, and rolled my eyes.

“Why not?” Savanah interjected. “It’s so entertaining seeing these strong men. I mean, look at those fucking muscles, will you?”

“Doesn’t having all those muscles shrink your dick?” Ethan asked.

“Has it shrunk yours?” I had to ask, as ridiculous as this conversation was getting. But that was my siblings. It always descended into the juvenile.

“I’m not that stacked.”

“I’m not sure about that. You’re looking rather buff these days,” I said.

“I’ve been a little more disciplined, I suppose. Thanks for noticing, bro.” He tapped my arm. “Coming from you, looking like a fucking superhero, it means a lot.”

I left my brother and sister and, with Theadora’s hand in mine, we did the rounds, chatting to people and answering questions about Reboot’s aims.

It was a great afternoon. I knew I’d made the right decisions about everything. With Theadora close and Reboot in full swing, I had plenty to smile about.

The annual ball was a calendar event, and despite relations being a little strained between me and my mother, I’d decided that I was going to take my place in that family like I’d always done. Tradition was everything to me. She’d just have to learn to accept Theadora. I would see to that.

Theadora stood before the mirror, looking like a goddess in a red gown. I stood behind her as she played with her hair in the mirror.

I breathed in her rose fragrance. “You’ll be the envy of every woman there. The most beautiful girl at the ball.”

She pulled a face. Theadora didn’t have a vain bone in her body. If anything, she tended towards self-deprecation.

“You don’t think this is too much?” She pointed at her hair. “The stylist suggested I wear it half up and down. It’s a little old-fashioned, don’t you think?”

I played with a tendril curving onto her chest and then ran my finger down that long soft cleavage, noticing her nipples spike through the silk.

“You look beautiful.”

She kept tilting her head from side to side, as though trying to find something in the mirror. “You don’t think this is over the top? I’ve never dressed like this before.”

I shook my head. “This is how women dress for these events. And you look like a painting that I would pay a fortune to own.”

She smiled sweetly. “You say such nice things.”

I lifted a finger. “There’s one thing missing. Just wait a minute.” I went to a drawer and removed a velvet jewellery box and handed it to her. “A gift.”

Her eyebrows drew apart. “Another one? You’re spoiling me.”

“Open it.”

She lifted the diamond earrings from the box. “Oh my god. These are too much. Are they real?”
