“I meant…” I pulled a tight smile.

“I got you the first time.” He grinned. “Whenever you can fit me in.”

“I can come over now, if you like.” I pointed at my bike.

“Oh, you’re riding. I like to ride too. There are some really nice riding paths around here.” His smile lit his face, and he had a boyish, sweet shine about him. A new look. One of many. Declan Lovechilde had a few layers to him. If only my body would stop burning up around him, I’d like to get to know him more as a person. He struck me as a good man. Not that typical bossy billionaire who snaps fingers and expects everyone to drop to their feet. Having never met one in the flesh, perhaps I’d read one billionaire romance too many.

“I’ve discovered a few nice paths already. And the ride from Merivale’s fantastic.”

He pointed at a cobbled laneway surrounded by cottages with thatched roofs and sleepy willows. “You can follow me, if you like. It’s only a five-minute walk from here.”

He stood by as I lowered to unchain my bike.

“That’s probably unnecessary round here. Most people know each other,” he said.

My damp fingers fumbled about with the metal wheel for the right sequence. Normally an effortless procedure, but with Declan there my clammy fingers became uncoordinated.

After I managed to unlock it, Declan took the bike. “Here, let me wheel it for you.” He grinned. “Unless you want to jump on the handlebars while I ride.”

I giggled. “That sounds dangerous.”

He raised his eyebrows, and our eyes held again.

What did he think I meant by dangerous?
