“This is great art.” I pointed up at the hanging canvases.

“It’s been an outstanding success. I’m finally earning a wage.”

“I’m so proud of you.”

Ethan entered, and when Miranda returned his smile, my chest tightened.

She walked me out, and as we stepped into the alleyway, I said, “He wants you.”

“I want you. Your life’s complicated as hell, but I can’t stop myself from wanting you.” She wore a sad smile.

Her eyes misted over as our eyes locked.

I’d never felt such strong love for anyone before. “I’m going to do everything to make this work, Miranda.”

Her face relaxed. “I don’t like Ethan, by the way. Not in that way.”

“Well, then, maybe you should introduce him to someone he can redirect those puppy-dog eyes to.”

Miranda laughed. “Puppy-dog eyes?”

“He’s got those eyes that girls, I’m told, go for.”

“Not me. I go more for blue-eyed muscly guys who like to surf and play music. And can lift me with one hand.”

I laughed. “If you’re referring to my training with your scrumptious body instead of weights, then I’m ready for another session. Naked, of course.”

“Like the Greek athletes?” she asked, tilting her pretty face.

“Not me. You. Naked. Those clothes will only add precious weight.”

“I think it’s extraordinary that you can do that with me. I’m not exactly slim.”

“You’re fucking perfect.” I traced her waist with my finger.

“Later, then.”

“I can’t wait.” I brushed my lips against hers and lingered, savoring her sweetness.

As I walked away, my phone vibrated, so I pulled it out of my pocket. Satan’s sister was calling.

“Tamara.”

“I can make all this go away,” she said.

“You’re not getting the estate. Two hundred million’s a fair offer. Wouldn’t you say?”

“I want more.”

I took a deep breath. The two billion dollars in Geneva came to mind. I could move on and enjoy a peaceful life with Miranda.

“Meet me in an hour.” Because of my bail conditions, I wasn’t meant to go anywhere near her. But that was my home.

“I’m at the house now,” she said.

“Okay. I’m on my way,” I said.

I jumped into my car, which I’d parked at the penthouse, and headed back to the estate.
