Doing what needed to be done was like breathing oxygen to me. It was who I am.

I did what I had to do to protect my mother and brothers. I did what I had to do to prove myself to Lorenzo. I tortured, murdered, all in the name of loyalty. A twisted sense of it.

A Luca knocked on my door, and I willingly let her walk right in and shit on my bed.

The sense of betrayal, whether intentional or not, made me sick to the stomach.

It was the Lucas behind everything after all.

I was wrong about Aunt Isabella and Abruzzo. Their blood was on my hands because I listened to my dick and not Gabe.

Costa blood was on my hands.

“So what exactly was your plan?” I sneered, walking toward her in three long strides.

She stared up at me with tear-filled eyes, stretched to the brim.

“Sneak your way in like a rat, and try to tear this family apart from the inside out?”

I planted a hand on either side of her, pinning her against the sink. She was so close that her light jasmine scent filled my nostrils, traveling all the way to my head and down to my middle.

I grit my teeth and thrust it out of my mind.

“I-I don’t… I m-mean, I d-didn’t…” She stuttered.

“What’s the matter, Raven? Or should I call you Sofia?”

Her eyes stared back at me, a million things running through it.

I didn’t miss the way they did not fly wide in surprise at the mention of Sofia.

She knew.

She knew she was busted the minute Mom saw her.

My gaze fixed on her, I watched her closely, trying to search for answers. But all I could find were tears, pink-stained cheeks, cupid-bow lips I’d kissed hundreds of times and wanted just as much as the first time.

“Please, let me explain—”

I swooped in and crushed her lips beneath mine, unable to resist the way they seemed to call to me. Her lips grew pliant beneath me, but it made me draw back even angrier.

“Come on, Sofia, you can do better than that.”

Her lips were still parted, and I took them again. Despite the way she was trembling, I could feel her body sparking up. But she made no move to reciprocate. She didn’t lace her fingers through the hair at the back of my neck. She didn’t grab onto my shoulders like they were her lifeline.

“What’s the matter?” I said, wrenching my lips away. “You fucked me to play your game, didn’t you? That was quite the price to pay, wasn’t it?”

“I didn’t… I-I mean… that wasn’t…”—she shut her eyes closed, as if what she was about to say next pained her to say it—“a game.”

Rage coursed through my veins so hot I expected to see it burn right through my skin.

“I mean, that wasn’t supposed to happen…” she added lamely.

“Are you trying to tell me I made you... that I forced you to fuck me?” I seethed, fisting my hands so tight, my knuckles popped. “I’ve ripped men apart, Raven. I’ve carved them up piece by piece. I’ve done plenty of things you couldn’t even imagine. But I have never raped a woman. Never, do you understand me? So if—”

“No!” she cried as her face seemed to fracture into a thousand pieces. “I didn’t say that, Nico. I would never.”

In all the pieces that made up her beautiful face, there wasn’t a spot of doubt. For some fucked up reason, it mattered to me. It mattered that she didn’t see me that way.
