I don’t even have my cell phone to scroll on. Although that’s probably a good thing. Styx and Ryder can’t hound me if I don’t have my phone with me.

But the second Aunt Cassie ushers me into the kitchen, I spot it.

“How—”

“Styx stopped by,” my brother appears.

“He did?”

Diesel nods. “Thought you might need this. Said you dropped it when you got hurt at the club.”

At the club, right.

Styx obviously gave him a viable cover story.

“How are you feeling?” He approaches, rubbing his finger along my hairline. I wince as he brushes the dressing.

“Sore.”

“Jesus Christ, Kat. Do you have any idea how worried we’ve been?”

“I’m sorry, okay.”

“Come on, big brother. Give the girl some space.” Aunt Cassie leads me over to a chair. “It’s been an intense couple of days.”

“How’s Mom?” I ask already knowing the answer.

“Out of it. The doctor stopped by and gave her a strong sedative. You’re okay? The doctor said—”

“I’m fine.”

At least I will be.

I have to be.

I refuse to let Styx and Ryder’s betrayal weigh heavily on me.

Even if they have broken a piece of me.

Aunt Cassie was right.

We Walker women are strong.

Styx and Ryder had their chance, and they blew it.

“What the fuck was that?” I bark slamming my palms on Ryder’s back the second we step out of the hospital.

“She needed some space,” he argues, spinning around to look at me. He holds his hands up in defense, but it’s not enough. He just dragged me away from my girl when she needs me most.

“I fucking hate you right now,” I roar, surging forward and slamming my fist into his gut.

“Oomph,” falls from his lips as I take him by surprise and he stumbles back as he tries to catch his breath.

“I know you’re pissed, Styx, but—”
