“Come on, brother. It doesn’t mean—”

“Yeah, whatever.” He backtracks out of the room and slams the door behind him.

“Fuck,” Ryder hisses.

“He’s acting like a child. Has he forgotten that I’m the one who should be pissed.” Ryder’s mouth twitches and I glower. “What?”

“I’ve missed that.”

“Huh?”

“That fire in your eyes, that sparkle.”

“Whatever.” I grab a pillow and hug it to my chest.

“I should go run damage control. Maybe you can join us for some dinner in a bit.”

He doesn’t wait around to hear my answer, just walks out.

A second later, my phone chimes. I almost ignore it.

Almost.

But I know who it is.

Reaching over, I grab it, and open Diesel’s message.

Diesel: Hey. How are you feeling today? Mom is okay, settled. She misses you something fierce though. She’s asking about you and I’m running out of excuses.

I hesitate. But then my fingers fly over the screen.

Kat: I’m not ready. Tell her I love her and hope she likes the new place.

A tear slips down my cheek as I press send. But something catches my attention beyond the door.

Raised voices.

“Fuck’s sake, Styx. I wasn’t trying to…” Ryder’s voice drowns out.

“…know what to do. You think this is easy? I’m not cut out for this shit, I’m not…”

Their voices become muffled and then something crashes, reverberating through the house.

Before I can stop myself, I bolt from the bed and storm across the room, ripping open the bedroom door.

My heart races, blood pounding between my ears, as I head toward the living room.

“Seriously?” I shriek. “You’re seriously going to fight over the fact Ryder laid with me? You’re pathetic—”

My brows furrow as I take in the scene before me. Ryder is crouched down, picking up the shattered pieces of glass off the floor.

“What… I don’t understand.”

“Just a little accident, Kitten,” he drawls, amusement flashing in his eyes.

Styx is still, staring at me like he’s seen a ghost.

“You’re up.”
