Iwake with a thick head. Pulling the sheet up around my body, I stare up at the ceiling recounting the night before.

Watching River with the guys.

Seeing Mom, the dark circles under her eyes, the pain etched there.

Ryder’s body pressed up against me, hot and hard and heavy.

Ugh.

I let out an audible groan, reaching over and grabbing my cell phone.

I’m hardly surprised to find a text from the dirty mouthed biker.

Ryder: You skipped out on me.

Kat: I left the party.

Ryder: Same thing.

Hardly.

I scoff.

After our moment of madness outside the clubhouse, I’d persuaded Bones to give me a ride home while Ryder was busy playing pool with some of the guys.

He disarms me. Says and does all the right things. But I can’t trust his words or actions.

Can I?

I’m forbidden. And what hot-blooded guy doesn’t enjoy the chase? Especially when a girl is off-limits.

Another text comes through and I have to read it twice to make sure I’m seeing it right.

Ryder: Let me take you out today?

He wants to take me out?

This is not part of the plan.

Kat: I don’t think that’s a good idea.

Ryder: I think it’s a great fucking idea. All you have to do is say yes.

I squeeze my eyes shut, inhaling a ragged breath. I let myself hope with Styx… let myself believe that what we shared meant something and look where that got me.

I can’t do it again. I can’t put myself out there only to be knocked back.

Kat: I can’t today. I’m busy.

Ryder: I call bullshit. You’re scared. Scared you felt something last night when I slid into your tight wet pussy.

Heat curls in my stomach.

Damn him.

Ryder: Come on, baby. We’re good together. Let me take you for a ride…

Kat: Seriously, I can’t today.
