“Sorry, but I totally disagree. That night gave me the best thing I’ve had in fucking years. Not my fault you can’t man up and admit what you really want.”

“And you can? Diesel knows all about what you’re doing with his little sister, does he?”

My lips part to respond, but I don’t have any words.

“Exactly.” Styx glowers.

“He’s not my concern. And, he’s not got a leg to stand on seeing as he’s fucking Kat’s best friend. My biggest concern is her, Styx. Just like she should be yours. She’s fucking drowning in all this shit with her mom, and when she needed you most, you bailed on her.”

“I didn’t fucking bail. I just took a step back from fucking her.”

“But she needs it. She needs it to get out of her own head. And who the fuck are we to stop her from having that, or judging her for it. Life is shit, Styx. Really fucking shit. We need to take our pleasure and enjoyment wherever we can fucking find it.”

“You were at your parents? How’s Ricky?”

I shrug, not really wanting to go there right now. “Let’s just worry about our girl for now, shall we? At some point, D is going to answer his cell and we’re going to have to explain this,” I say, nodding toward Kat, who even while unconscious and injured looks fucking beautiful.

“He won’t accept that we’re both fucking her.”

“I don’t give a shit. I’m not giving her up now.” I slide my eyes to his in question. “Are you?”

KAT

There’s a brass band in my skull. At least that’s what it feels like as I slowly rouse.

What the hell happened?

I remember being at Styx’s place, waiting for him. Eating my body weight in ice cream.

I fell asleep.

Woke up to a strange feeling.

No…

NO.

Pain ricochets through my head, blood pounding between my ears as reality settles over me.

I must be in the hospital, unless Styx keeps a hospital bed and OBS machine at his house.

My eyelids flutter and relief pours into me when I spot Styx and Ryder deep in conversation over by the window.

Neither of them have noticed me so I take the opportunity to watch them. Soak in the presence of both of them here. In my hospital room.

But my brows pinch when I notice Styx’s posture stiffens.

“Not the right time,” he spits, the agitation in his voice surprising me.

“Come on, brother, she deserves to know. She was hurt, Styx. This shit needs to end.”

“Yeah, well, you should have thought about that before you went there.”

“Are we really going to do this? She likes me, I know she does.”

“She’s mine. You need to back the fuck off. I don’t share.”
