‘And after that, I might want you to do the same things to me. Hold my hand. Lean in close. Look at me as though you adore me. Kiss me as if you can’t wait for a taste.’ He met her gaze, held it. ‘It’s not sex. At the most it’ll be a couple of kisses, I give you my word. So what do you think, mikri alepou? Is that something you’ll be able to contemplate?’

Glory blinked. Raised a hand to her mouth and coughed. ‘I’m not sure,’ she said, her voice husky. ‘I’ve never kissed anyone before.’

Surprise flickered through him. While it was clear she was inexperienced, he hadn’t thought she’d bethatinexperienced.

‘No one?’ he asked, more sharply than he’d intended. ‘No one at all?’

She shifted on the couch in an irritated fashion. ‘You don’t have to soundsoshocked. It’s not that strange to not have kissed anyone before. I just never met anyone I was interested in. Anyway, I didn’t have the time for boyfriends.’

‘I’m not shocked. More surprised.’

‘Why? It wasn’t totally my fault. No one ever showed any interest in me. I mean, after all, you said yourself that I’m a very ordinary young woman.’

He heard it then, the soft edge of hurt in her voice.

You shouldn’t have said that.

No and especially not when he was starting to suspect that it wasn’t true. Because if she’d been a very ordinary young woman, he wouldn’t find the idea of flustering her quite so delightful, or the idea of kissing her quite so erotic.

‘Does it matter what I said?’ he murmured, watching her.

‘No.’ She looked down at her hands, a silky curl slipping over one shoulder and over the swell of her breast.

She was lying through her teeth.

There were too many things in Castor’s life that he regretted. Too many things that were broken beyond repair. But this small hurt he could fix.

‘I was wrong,’ he murmured. ‘I don’t think you’re ordinary after all.’

‘It’s okay, you don’t need to lie.’

‘I’m not lying. In fact, if you come over here I’ll show you just how ordinary I think you are.’

CHAPTER FOUR

CASTOR’SSMOKYAMBERgaze burned from beneath dark, gold-streaked lashes, making it difficult for Glory to look at him without her breath catching.

He was just too...male, too beautiful. Too much of everything.

Why did you ever think you could handle him?

She had no idea. What she did know was that agreeing to this preposterous idea was a terrible mistake.

Yet, what else could she do? She’d come here for Annabel and the thought of leaving empty-handed was impossible. She had no other ideas about how to get the money Annabel needed. This was it.

And you want him too, don’t deny it.

Okay, so she did. But that thought scared her.Hescared her. Not that he would hurt her, not when he’d had plenty of opportunity to take what he wanted from her and hadn’t. No, it was more about how fast her heart was beating and how tight her skin felt.

How she’d argued with him instead of apologising and hadn’t immediately done what he’d said without protest.

How hot her cheeks were when he’d talked to her about kissing her and about how she might kiss him in return.

She couldn’t even imagine it.

Can’t you? Can’t you imagine getting up and moving over to him. Bending and kissing that beautiful mouth...

Her face flamed.
