She didn’t mind, floating pleasantly in the aftermath, the hot weight of him like an anchor that kept her tethered and not floating away to be lost in the currents.

Then she felt him cupping her cheek and she realised her eyes were closed, so she opened them, looking straight up into his beautiful face.

His expression was warm, but not the forced, brittle charm she’d seen that night of the party. This was natural, his amber gaze smoky with heat. ‘Are you okay? Nothing too sore?’

His body was a hot weight on her, pinning her to the couch, and while there were a few...tender spots, she’d never felt better in her entire life. ‘Yes, I’m okay. No, wait.’ She smiled. ‘I’m better than okay. I think I might even be great.’

His thumb moved idly across her cheekbone in a caressing movement, and though he didn’t smile back, his gaze had softened.

She liked the way he was looking at her, with warmth and a certain tenderness, as if her well-being was important to him. As ifshewas important to him and not a burden he had to carry.

‘What about you?’ she asked, stroking the broad plane of his chest. ‘Are you okay?’

He did smile then and it made her feel as if she’d won a prize. ‘Oh, you don’t need to worry about me,mikri alepou.’ His thumb moved down, along the line of her jaw. ‘Phenomenal doesn’t even being to cover it.’

She flushed with pleasure, then a sudden doubt gripped her. ‘But if sex is always like that—’

‘Sex is never like that,’ he interrupted, his smile vanishing, leaving behind it the burning ferocity that lay at the heart of him. ‘At least it’s never been like that for me.’

Glory stared at him in surprise, because that surely couldn’t be right. He was very experienced, had had a lot of women, so why would being with her be so different?

‘Why not?’ she asked. ‘I’m not that special, Castor. I’m just an ordinary woman—’

‘You’re not an ordinary woman.’ The gold in his eyes glinted brighter. ‘Because if you were, you wouldn’t drive me as mad as you do. I wouldn’t be thinking about you, or trying to resist you, or arguing with you about wearing my ring in front of the altar. And I certainly wouldn’t be lying naked with you on the couch and thinking about how I’d love to make you scream again, except louder this time.’ He brushed his mouth over hers, nipping at her bottom lip. ‘Glory, you’re not ordinary, you’reextraordinary, understand?’

When he looked at her like that, she did feel extraordinary. Not a simple checkout girl in a grocery store, the burden her sister had to bear, but someone beautiful and mysterious. Someone special.

She blushed. ‘I don’t feel it sometimes.’

He gave her another nip. ‘Well, I hope you’re feeling it now, because it’s true.’

Glory shuddered in delight, then put her hands on his broad shoulders, stroking his skin as she looked up into his face. ‘Yes, I do feel it. You make me feel it, Castor.’

‘I’m glad, mikri alepou.’ He stared down at her for a long moment, the fierce currents of his emotions shifting in his eyes. Then he turned his head in the direction of the windows, as if he’d heard a noise, the lines of his beautiful face hardening. ‘A little privacy, I think.’

He pushed himself off the couch and strode over to the windows, apparently not caring that he was naked. He grabbed the curtains and jerked them closed, before turning and coming back to the couch.

Then he settled himself back on top of her, making her breath catch at the feel of his bare skin sliding against hers. ‘There now,’ he murmured. ‘Where were we? Oh, yes...about here, I think...’ He bent his head, nuzzling at the base of her throat, his lips brushing over her skin.

Glory shut her eyes and drew in a shaky breath, heat rippling throughout her entire body. ‘Did you hear something?’

‘No.’ His breath ghosted over her skin as he moved lower, trailing kisses over her collarbones. ‘Just keeping out any eavesdroppers.’

Glory wanted to ask him why he thought there’d be any eavesdroppers on a private island, especially when he’d told his staff to absent themselves, but then his lips closed around the aching tip of her nipple, and her thoughts fractured, everything lost but for the exquisite pressure of his mouth and the sparks of pleasure lighting her up inside.

She forgot about eavesdroppers. Forgot about how this wasn’t real. She forgot about everything but him and his mouth on her body and his hands on her skin, him inside her, moving hard and deep and fierce, showing her how good he could make her feel.

He was amazing. She’d never experienced anything like him in her entire life.

Afterwards, when their hunger had been sated for the time being, he picked her up and carried her up to his bedroom and the huge, white-tiled shower in the adjoining bathroom, where he washed her gently and with a care that brought tears to her eyes.

She hadn’t been looked after like this since she was a child, and even then, looking into Annabel’s tired face every day, she knew what a burden taking care of her was. Even worse that Annabelhadto do it because Glory was her sister.

But Castor didn’t have to. There was no obligation on him at all. He was doing it because he wanted to, and while she made a cursory protest, he ignored it so she gave up, letting herself enjoy it and not feel guilty.

After they’d got out of the shower, he insisted on drying her, kneeling in front of her with a soft white towel and wiping the moisture from her skin. She watched him as he did so, wondering why he was doing it and what he was getting from it, because he was getting something, that was clear.

‘You like taking care of people, don’t you?’ she asked, the question escaping before she could think better of it.
