“Three O’clock.”

“Well we have just the right amount of time to get back to your place before the kids get home. Let’s boogie.”

She hadn’t realized it had gotten so late in the afternoon. Lost in the nature and sunbeams, not rushing the moment, because where did she have to be? Now she was thankful for him to be watching the time. But mad at herself for not realizing she would have been late getting home and her kids probably wouldn’t know what to do but stand on the steps.

“Thank you.” She walked beside him as they left the little paradise they had found. “I love it here. Will you bring me back here someday?” Amber wanted to return to the place her mind finally silenced and have a little more time to enjoy their time together.

“Sure. Anytime you want.”

Amber tossed the bag of trash in the bin.

Suddenly, Mountain stood stock still.

A chill ran down her back, unsure of what had the man ridged as a board until she moved around him to head to the bike and saw three men circled up twenty feet away from Mountain’s Harley.

The words, unspoken between men as Mountain took her hand in his and the three men revved their engines and drove away.

“Everything good?” she asked when they reached the motorcycle.

He got on, leaning forward and waiting for her to get on behind him. “Yeah,” he replied.

Any unease she had melted away when she wrapped her arms around his waist and laid her head upon his back. Melting into the smell the leather and man.

The ride home didn’t last as long as she wanted it to. Amber got off at her house and waited for him to dismount. When he didn’t, she was disappointed. “Do you want to come in for a bit?”

“I better not,” he said.

“But dinner?” she questioned, a bit perturbed and wondering if the moment had all been some misinterpreted dream.

“Shit,” he said, jerking his head a bit to the side. “I should head home I have a few things I need to do this afternoon. Next time though, I would love to and we’ll do the family date.”

“Ok-ay?” she said unsure what was happening.

Mountain reached for her, wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her flush to his side. Her hands rested on his shoulders and he nuzzled along the column of her neck before nipping at her ear. “Call Red, he’ll set up an interview with you,” he assured. “I’m sorry about dinner, Nightingale, I forgot a few things.”

“Just gotta pull a rabbit out of my hat,” she said with a sigh pulling back, but letting her hand stroke his beard. “I didn’t take anything out.”

“It’s on me,” he said. “I’ll order a pizza and have sent to your house okay. I’m the fuck up here.”

“You don’t have to,” she said shaking head.

“Yes, I do, breadsticks and everything. The day got away from me somehow, but I’m glad I was able to see you.” His arm let go of her waist and he started up the bike. “I’ll call you later, Nightingale.” With a wave, he pulled away.

She watched as he rode down the street. His body so in tune with the bike they were practically one. Hope was blooming in her chest that he would continue to come around. Damn her, she was starting to like the man.
