“You said I wouldn’t have to change schools and if I did, it was because we were moving back with daddy.”

“I don’t care if I go to a different school,” Callum her little hero said, though she worried about the stiff way his arm was moving as he ate his food.

“Turnabout is in the same school district as Berrington. You have kids in your class that are bussed over,” Amber replied. “And I never said I was moving back with your daddy, Maisie.”

“Why not? You love each other.”

It was then she noticed Maisie’s glare at Mountain and knew there was going to be a very hard come to Jesus moment as she walked the line of a divorced mother of two. Maybe this was why she’d never dated. Did Maisie pull this on Kevin and his women? “Discussion for another time,” Amber warned her daughter.

“Why? Because Mountain kissed you?” she asked. “Daddy kisses lots of girls, but he loves you.”

“I probably should let you handle this,” Mountain said heading for the door with the now full and sealed container of food in his hands.

“Maisie, eat,” Amber ordered and walked out to the porch with Mountain. “I’m sorry about that.”

“You said you haven’t played scrabble for a years,” he stated. “Guess Maisie never saw you set up the board.”

The scrabble comment made her smile. “If she did, she would have been very young, and it would have been with her father.”

“That explains it,” he said.

“Not fully,” Amber stated. “Because her father did say something about us getting back together a few weeks ago. I wonder if he planted seeds in her.”

“Is that a possibility?” Mountain asked.

“No, it’s a break in many girls kissing him that has him lonely for brief moment.” She sighed and crossed her arms. “I’m tempted to steal his phone and set him up on Tinder and swipe right or left or up whatever gets him on a date.”

“Wouldn’t know, I don’t play scrabble in tournaments.” Mountain ducked his head in the most adorablelittle kid caughtway. “But I did enjoy pulling a few letters from the bag this afternoon.”

“Me too,” she admitted and rocked back on her heels. “I can come tomorrow after I drop off the kids at school.”

“Perfect. Let’s meet at the Roadside. I’ll buy you lunch and we’ll explore.”

“Around noon?” Amber felt a rush of excitement about spending the day with him.

“Noon will be perfect,” he said. “I’ll get there a little early and you can tell me how the interview went.”

“You will be careful?” she asked stepping closer and placing a hand in the middle of his chest. “On the ride back.” She didn’t want to see anything happen to him and not having his club around him worried her. Especially since that was the second time, those other men had been around them.

“Yes, I’ll be careful.” Mountain lifted her chin and softly caressed her lips. “Nightingale, we really need to find time to set up board.”

His beard tickled her chin and she licked at his lip making him moan. “Agreed,” she said wishing she hadn’t gone for more because at this moment, closing the front door and wrapping her legs around his waist seemed like a very good idea. Being fucked against said door had even more appeal. Even in the cooling night air as her neighbor across the street was playing shitty mechanic. Sadly, that was not an option and with her switching weekends, the near future was bleak too.

His hand trailed down the center of her body as he stepped off the porch and walked to his bike.

She leaned on the railing and watched him drive away with a sigh. Amber was a little bummed he didn’t stay for dinner but she understood. He was only doing his job for the club and delivering the message.

“Maisie,” Amber said, once again pulling out her mom voice, she closed the door and approached the kitchen table to face down the girl with as much piss and vinegar running through her veins as her mother.
