Mountain paced. He couldn’t help anyone anymore. He lifted bikes off of people, but as far as first aid stuff, he wasn’t good with any of that. Instead, he was standing bitch and directing traffic around the accident. He didn’t want anyone else to get hurt from people being impatient, like they could actually drive around it.

He stood in the middle of the highway and held up his hands then directed each car to turn around on the median and find a frontage road or wait. Until most of the bikes were cleared, he wasn’t going to let anyone maneuver their way through the Jonestown display of bikes on the road.

A random car horn started to honk and a little boy jumped out of a van parked on the side of the highway. He’d seen the woman helping treat his brothers and the women. The last thing she needed was to treat her own kid, so Mountain raced over to him and scooped him up. “Hey, little man. I don’t think you should go over there.”

“Let me go, I want my mommy.” The little boy kicked out.

“Why do I think your mommy told you to keep your butt in that seat?”

The young boy eyeballed him, the gaze going from his face to the gun resting on his shoulder, then back to his face. “Are you an Avenger?”

“Do I look like an Avenger?” Mountain asked with a bit of a chuckle.

“You look like Thor and the Punisher had a baby,” the kid replied.

“Then I’d only be half Avenger,” he said. “And in desperate need of a hammer.”

“I guess. You’re taller than my dad.”

“I’m taller than most dads,” Mountain replied. “Even my own.”

“Mommy won’t let me play with guns,” the kid said. “Even squirt ones.”

“Mommies are like that,” Mountain said.

“Is that real?” the toe-headed boy asked pointing to Mountain’s beard.

“Yes.”

“I pulled Santa’s beard at the mall when I was four.” The boy began petting Mountain’s beard. “It wasn’t real, but I got in trouble.”

“Why did you get in trouble?” Mountain asked.

The boy shrugged. “I donna’t know he was the one lyin’.” He tugged on Mountain’s beard.

Mountain made sure pinch his face up in pain.

“Ow!”

Overhead, the sound of a helicopter had wind and sand whipping up around the scene and Mountain cradled the grade schooler to his chest. A bit of a feat, considering the kid wanted to watch the rescue helicopter as it landed on the other side of the semi. Mountain’s heart eased a bit knowing Baldy would be on his way soon. Lil’ Bit too, more than likely if they could handle the weight. If not, one of the ambulance’s that had pulled up would take care of her. Either way, the minion needed his mommy.

“Which one is your mom, kid?” Mountain asked.

“That one.” He pointed to the woman kneeling by Shark and Lyna, treating their wounds.

Approaching the group he called out, “This little man says you’re his momma.”

“Callum, I told you to stay in the van. What are you doing?” She reached out for him.

Several fire trucks, ambulances, and police had arrived on the scene.

Mountain smiled down at the woman and handed Callum over. “I didn’t think you want him running in the highway.”

“Thank you.” Her face turned red.

Mountain found himself getting caught in a beautiful set of sea colored eyes. He was a bit surprised when she stood. The woman was tall with more than enough curves to please him. She had shoulder length brown hair, highlighted with bits of blonde and red like a maple in the fall.
