“Because you’re sober,” shecoached.

I laughed. “No, because you’reyou.”

“So, help me understand you,” Talia whispered as if she were afraid to ruin themood.

I picked up my phone and showed her the screen. “Oh, will you look at the time?” I started to stand, but instead, Talia slid off the chair, hiking her skirt up in the process, and somehow managed to land straddling my lap, thereby successfully pinning me to the floor. My brow rose. “You did this onpurpose.”

She grinned coyly and shrugged. “Maybe Idid.”

When she rocked on my groin, I could feel my cock grow. “Stop,” I groaned. “Now I have two reasons I can’t getup.”

She snickered. “My bad.” Talia leaned close. “Tellme.”

“I was so much more fun when I could drink.” Isighed.

She shook her head. “No, you weren’t. You only think you were. I saw you that one time and you were straight upsloppy.”

I frowned as I struggled to remember. “Casino.”

“Yeah. The three of you made a bet. Looks like two out of three of you managed to make good. What’s your story?” Sheteased.

Without thinking, I pulled her close and pressed my lips to hers before pulling back. “How much truth do you want?” I murmured against her cheek before burrowing into herneck.

“All of it, otherwise, why bother saying anything at all?” Then she shivered as I nibbled on herskin.

“I didn’t think anyone could compete with the alcohol and drugs.” I blew out a breath and smiled as her grip on my shoulders tightened. “You make me forget I ever needed them.” I pushed her back so I could look her in the eye. “I meanit.”

Talia bit her cheek and nodded. “I believe you. Now date mealready.”

“You getme all hot and bothered, then you want to leave the room?” Drewfrowned.

I giggled. Apparently, he made me do that a lot, and it felt incredible. “Yes.”

He shrugged. “Sounds aboutright.”

I rose enough to slide back onto the chair while pulling my skirt down, and allow him the space he needed to get up. When I came out of the bathroom, I’d brought my shoes and set them on the floor beside the chair. While he struggled to stand, I worked on the new straps. Every bit of this outfit made me feel like I fit in. For someone who had spent her life working behind the scenes as an outsider, it felt pretty special. I sashayed to the bathroom so I could double-check my eye makeup. Once I was satisfied, I turned to leave, only to discover Drew leaning against the wall outside thedoor.

“For the first time ever, I’ll be the envy of all the guys for a reason other than my assets.” He sighed. “The wedding is the easy part. After that, I’m really going to need you to stick to me. Think you can handlethat?”

“Absolutely.” I beamed. “Unless you decide to walk fast. Then you’re on yourown.”

Drew chuckled. “What about thebathroom?”

I shrugged. “Do you think I’ll need to holdit?”

He smirked. “I believe I have mastered that.” He leaned in. “My aim is even better sober.” Drewwinked.

I snorted. “On future dates, this should be the first thing you share. Lead with that. You’re marriagematerial.”

“Well, you already know. So, what should I brag about on a second date with you?” He waggled hisbrows.

“I meant with other women,” Iexplained.

His eyebrows rose. “I know what you meant. I’m rather hoping I can convince you to date me with less, you know, financial incentive.” Drew must’ve seen my jaw twitch. “Okay, fine. I’ll keep paying you. Whatever. I’ve never been so at ease with a woman in all my life. I’m not going to let go of that easily.” He shrugged and offered me his arm. “We’d better get going since I need to use a slower gait for you.” Then he walked us out of theroom.
