“No, something cute!” I joked. We were at the door and I could tell Mike was struggling with pulling it open and maintaining control of me. I kept waiting for a moment, a chance to breakaway.

Then it happened. The door opened from the outside, and Mike prepared to rush out, dragging me with him. Because of his momentum he stumbled, so I shoved his knife-wielding arm against the door frame, and then dove out of his grasp into the waiting arms of my friends and the woman I might just make mywife.

“IthoughtI was going to lose you already,” I murmured as I held him in my lap on the floor. I covered his wound with one hand and ran my other through hishair.

“Nah. I’m resilient and shit.” Drew winked up at me and my heartfluttered.

“And shit?” I asked as I pressed my lips to hisforehead.

“Makes me sound tough.” He laughed, then added, “A forehead kiss?” He made a face. “Even my mother gave me cheekkisses.”

“Listen, toughguy…”

Drew interrupted me before I had a chance to finish. “Is that my new pet name? I like it.” Hegrinned.

“No, dammit. And never scare me like this again,” I warned and this time pressed my lips to hisnose.

“First, you’ve officially sucked the joy out of Halloween.” Drew pretended to glare atme.

I laughed. “Is there asecond?”

“Yes. There is. Your aim is getting worse. You totally missed my lips that time.” Hehuffed.

There was some chuckling behind me. I glanced back in time to see Ty and Harry waiting nearby. “Hey, Ty,” I began. “How lucky was it that the bad guy fell into the security guard’s arms? What are the chances they’d actually be around when we needthem?”

“Pretty good.” Ty sighed. “I called them on the way to meetyou.”

“Oh.” I stared at him for a moment, my lips still forming a perfect ‘O’ when Drew’s hand wrapped around my neck and he pulled me in for a kiss. I giggled as I pulledaway.

“See? My aim is perfect.” Drewsnickered.

“Yes, you’re quite talented,” I remarked. Then I stared at his friends. “Is he always likethis?”

Harry and Ty exchanged a look. Harry spoke first. “I’ve never seen him behave this way. I’m thinking it’s you.” Heshrugged.

Ty nodded. “Oh, it’s definitely her.” Then he grinned at Drew. “You’ve never been better, Drew. I’m happy foryou.”

“Still, I did manage to find a way to ruin the event and soil a woman’s dress. The blood will be a bitch to get out, so I guess I’m not completely reformed,” heteased.

Two EMTs rushed into the bathroom and I was moved out of the way, but Drew never took his eyes off of me. I wrapped my arms around my body, truly feeling at a loss since we weren’t touching. I tried to stand quietly behind them, but instead, Ipaced.

“Do you think he’s going to need stitches?” I asked as they pulled away the wad of tissues I’d used to pack hisneck.

“I think with a few butterfly sutures, he’ll be fine, miss. He won’t even have to go to the hospital,” one of the EMTsnoted.

“Thank God,” Drewmumbled.

Behind me, Ty and Harry laughed. “I’m sure the doctors and nurses there feel the same way, Drew,” Harryannounced.

Minutes later, the EMTs were done. “He’s all yours.” They sat him up, patted him on the back, then exited the bathroom. Ty and Harry followed themout.

Slowly, Drew stood. “Alone at last.” He smirked atme.

“Well, you heard them, you’re all mine.” At first, I thought I meant it as a joke, but as I stared up into his eyes, I realized suddenly how serious I was, how much I meantit.
