I growl. This is the same excuse I’ve heard from Pops and the uncles my entire life. It’s getting old.

Before I have a chance to give Aiden a piece of my mind, Suzie shouts from the other side of the room. “She already turned the job down. You can stop arguing and start making up now.”

Aiden ignores Suzie and pulls my hand close. “I’m serious. Estelle Bostwick is not the innocent socialite wife she pretends to be.”

“Wrong thing to say, dude. Now she’s curious,” Lenny shouts.

I swivel my head to glare at him. He shrugs. “What? Wally said he wouldn’t use the listening device. I didn’t.”

I stand and stomp over to them. I hold out my hand. “Give it to me.” No one moves. “Give it to me or I will tell everyone at the bar about the time you all got drunk and decided to—”

“Okay! Okay!” they shout in unison before I can tell the entire bar what a bad idea it is to try and rappel off the U.S. Bank Center.

Lenny shoves the listening device to me. “You’re no fun.”

“That’s what she said!” I say and Barney high-fives me before I walk back to Aiden carrying the device.

“Things are never going to be boring when I’m around you, are they?”

Is he worried about getting bored? This is the second time he’s brought it up. “You get used to them.”

Pops arrives with two plates loaded down with hamburgers too big to take a bite of and enough French fries to satisfy even my hunger. “No one tells my daughter what to do,” he growls at Aiden who raises his hands in surrender.

“And you.” Pops points at me. “You aren’t taking a murder case. I put up with your investigator business because I know you can take care of yourself, but murders?” He shakes his head. “I’m drawing the line.”

I count to twenty in my head as I stand and face Pops. I remind myself committing patricide while in the presence of a cop is a bad idea. “You put up with my investigator business?”

The uncles rush to Pops and pull him away. “Come on, Max. Let the kids enjoy their dinner. Hails already said she wasn’t taking the case.”

I stalk after them. This is not over. But a hand on my wrist stops me. “Let him go, honey. He’s your dad. He’s allowed to worry about you.”

I collapse in my seat. “Worry about me? Yes. Put up with my business? No.”

“I’m sure he didn’t mean it how it sounded.” Aiden rubs my pulse point with his thumb and my heartbeat starts to beat out of control. Judging by the smirk on his face, he feels it. My stomach growls and his smirk grows. “Are you ever not hungry?”

“Do we need to have the conversation about me not being a pig again?”

His eyes widen. “No!”

I giggle as I grab my hamburger and take a huge bite.

Two hours later, my stomach is sore from laughing and my cheeks are aching from smiling. I don’t think I’ve had this much fun for a long time. I certainly haven’t had this much fun on a date ever. Wait. Is this even a date?

“Yes, Hailey McGraw, this is a date. And now I’m taking you home.”

My nipples like his idea. A lot. “I have my car.”

“I’ll follow you home.”

When we arrive at my house, I waste no time grabbing Aiden’s hand and hauling him into my place. As soon as we’re inside, I throw him onto my couch and climb on top of him. I mold my mouth to his, and he allows me to be in charge for approximately five seconds before taking control.

He growls and shoves his hands into my hair before tilting my head to his liking. He licks into my mouth as if he’s tasting a piece of delicious chocolate cake and he can’t get enough. I start to grind against him. I feel him harden below me, and it spurs me on to grind harder.

Aiden rips his mouth away from mine to trail his lips down my neck. He nips the spot where my neck connects to my shoulder, and I groan letting my head fall back. His hands slide beneath my shirt and I raise my arms so he can rid me of the thing. It’s in my way and I want it gone.

He chuckles. “It’s gone.” Oh shit. Did I speak out loud? I forget my question when he latches onto my bra-covered nipple and bites down.

“Oh god,” I squeak and start grinding faster and faster.
