The uncles make room for us and Hailey and Suzie join us for a late lunch.

I barely finish my food before my eyes start to close of their own accord. The next thing I know I’m in Ryker’s arms as he carries me across the pub toward the stairs to the apartment above.

“What are you doing? Don’t you need to get to work?”

He snorts. “You’re not getting rid of me that easy.”

I bury my head in his chest to hide my smile. His body moves as he chuckles. I guess I’m not fooling him for one second.

He carries me up the stairs straight to the bedroom I’m currently using at Pops’ place. He sets me on the bed before removing my shoes. He pulls back the covers and I scoot under them. I watch as he sits on the bed and removes his boots.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m not leaving you alone.”

I should probably argue. Tell him it’s too soon for him to be sleeping in bed next to me, but I’m selfish. I don’t want him to go anywhere.

He crawls into bed and gathers me into his arms. “Sleep, Princess. I’ll be here when you wake up.” He kisses my hair and my eyes shut. I sigh and fall asleep before I can respond.

“You bitch. You’ll pay for this.” Theodore sneers and lifts a hand. I cower in front of him.

I look around and notice I’m back in my bedroom in California. I knew no jail could keep Theodore Abbot contained. My eyes stray to the closed door and he laughs.

“Go ahead. Try me. You won’t get far.”

Damn. He’s right. There is not one person on the staff who will help me. They know if they do, ICE will sweep in and arrest each and every one of them.

And if I somehow manage to escape the house without the staff ratting me out, where would I go? The mansion sits on several acres of land outside the city. And I’m dressed in, I look down, a sheer nightgown. Great. I’m stuck.

“Now. Come here.” He hooks his finger and gestures for me.

“No.”

His eyes narrow as he walks to me. He grabs my hair and I scream.

“Princess. Wake up.”

My eyes fly open and I search the room. I’m not back in the mansion. I’m in the apartment above McGraw’s Pub. It was a dream. It wasn’t real. Theodore isn’t here.

“Shush, baby, you’re safe.” Ryker rocks me back and forth as he cradles me in his arms.

My breath hitches as my eyes fill.

“Let it go, Princess. Let it all go.”

My tears tumble out and down my face. I sob and the stream of tears becomes a torrent. “He… he…”

“He can’t get to you. Never again. You hear me. Never again.” And with Ryker’s strong arms around me, I believe him.

It takes a while, but with Ryker rubbing circles on my back, the stream of tears comes to a stop. I sniff and rub my eyes. I must look like hell. Great. I finally have Ryker right where my body wants him, and I look like doggy doo-doo.

But Phoebe 2.0 knows life is short. She’s not wasting an opportunity when it lands in her lap. I tilt my head back and stretch my neck to touch my lips to his. As soon as our lips meet, I shiver. Nothing has ever felt better than his lips on mine. I deepen the kiss and force my tongue into his mouth. Ryker growls and rolls me so I’m laying on my back with him on top of me. Yes.

My hands explore his shoulders and back. I can feel his muscles pulled taut underneath my fingers, but I want to feel his skin. I grip the hem of his Henley and pull up until he’s forced to break the kiss so I can remove it. My eyes widen when I see the layers upon layers of muscles on his chest. I lift a finger and poke his pec muscle. It’s rock hard.

He smirks before brushing a hand down my cheek. “I think we should stop.”

“Don’t you want me?”
