“Christ,” Connor swore. Even thousands of miles away, I could see those brown irises flaring angrily in my mind’s eye. “The entire lot of you scoundrels are against me.”

“Nobody’s against you,” I chuckled placatingly, “but fact is fact. Hold your balls. We’re flying back tomorrow.”

On the other side of the phone I thought I heard Connor sigh. “Not fast enough, precious. But it’ll have to do.”

I hung up, feeling homesick. There wasn’t much to do with Elliot out golfing. I could explore the hotel, maybe find out what the Icelanders ate for breakfast. But other than that…

For the next half hour I lounged around our double-occupancy room, finishing my coffee and showering my body clean of last night’s debauchery. The room still smelled of Elliot, and reeked of sex. Even with the windows cracked and a cold breeze wafting in, the sweet, musky scent of our lovemaking still lingered.

BZZZZT.

The phone rang again, and this time it was Aiden’s number. I grinned happily, figuring he just wanted to say hi.

“Jordyn?”

I flopped onto the bed again, this time clean and dressed. I’d been about to go out. My stomach was seriously rumbling.

“What’s wrong?” I teased. “Did Connor already—”

“Elliot’s meeting is over,” Aiden interrupted me. “He wanted me to call you.”

“Really?” I looked at the time. “That was a fast round of golf then. Maybe it’s different up here,” I shrugged, “but from what I remember—”

“He never finished the round,” Aiden cut me off again. “Negotiations broke down. The deal’s off.”

Sifting a hand through my hair, I blinked in surprise. “Oh.”

“Elliot had to fly out to Heathrow,” Aiden went on. “He’s already in the air.”

I bolted upright. “Heleftme here!?”

“He said he’s sorry. There wasn’t a lot of time, and he had to move. The hotel is already in the process of forwarding his things.”

“But—”

“He left you the Citation, fueled up and ready to go. We can call you a car to take you to the airport whenever you’re rea—”

“I’m ready now,” I jumped in quickly, glancing around.

Last night the room had been fun and exciting — filled with laughter, great sex, and good conversation. But now, in the daylight? It looked as empty and barren as the leaden grey sky just beyond the windows.

Between that and the freezing cold, I felt very much alone. Which was strange, because I never minded feeling alone before.

“Send a car, please?” I repeated. “I want to come home.”

Home.It should’ve felt like a strange thing to say, but it didn’t.

“We figured as much,” Aiden said, “so Connor and I made the call already. The car’s actually there now.”

Relief flooded through me as I began reaching for my suitcase. I felt happy. Excited. Loved.

Loved?

“Head to the lobby hon,” Aiden said warmly. “We’ll see you in a bit.”
