“The goal is to make you as comfortable as possible during your pregnancy, right?”

“Ourpregnancy,” I corrected him. “And sure. I guess so.”

“Well trust me when I say you’ll really like it here. You’ll have all the comforts of home, and then some.” He grinned theatrically. “Plus you’ll have us!”

Comforts of home. The thought was almost comical. The apartment I’d been renting in Flatbush was smaller than the foyer I stood in now.

“You might not ever want to leave,” Aiden winked, as he took my coat.

I thought back to my tiny place in Brooklyn. I was running a month-to-month lease, so breaking it wouldn’t a problem. Moving my stuff out would take all of fifteen minutes. I had no stuff.

“It’s on the lake, isn’t it?” I asked.

“Of course.”

I stepped through, in the general direction I assumed the lake would be. We’d seen it on the way in — a long, endless stretch of deep blue water, its shores reflecting the colors of every overhanging tree. I didn’t know much about Greenwood Lake, other than it being a playground for the rich and famous. And now, quite possibly, me.

“The kitchen’s through here,” Aiden was saying from behind me. “And then over here—”

“Oh!”

Stepping through an intersection, I bumped into someone crossing rapidly from the opposite hallway. Or rather, he bumped intome.

“Oopfh!”

My collision partner was naked, or at least nearly so. He wore a pair of loose-fitting mesh shorts, running shoes, and a gym towel thrown over one shirtless shoulder. But that was about it.

“Fuck!” he said abruptly, though it came out more like ‘fook’. “Sorry!”

He reached out with one corded arm to steady me, and kept me from falling. In that one brief moment we eyed each other up and down. Each of us seemed as surprised as the other at what we saw.

“And this would be Connor,” Aiden sighed, shaking his head. “Or as we affectionately call him, U2.”

“U2? As in the band?”

“Fuck off,” Connor spat back at his friend. But Aiden just laughed.

“Connor, meet Jordyn.”

“Meet Jordyn?” He stopped curiously, scratching at a line of something along his jawline that was half-stubble, half-beard. Whatever it was, it was sexy as hell. “Wait,JordynJordyn?”

“Yup.”

“Are youserious?” he asked in the most panty-dropping Irish accent. He took his eyes from me just long enough to stare incredulously back at his friend. “That’s today?”

“That’s today,” Aiden replied, with all the patience of an adult explaining something simple to a child. “As innottomorrow.”

I couldn’t tell if Connor was red-faced from his obvious workout, or if he were blushing on my account. Either way he stood about six-foot tall, his chest heaving with recent exertion. Every exposed inch of his delicious-looking skin was glistening with sweat.

“I’m sorry love,” he apologized quickly, “I must’ve got the days mixed up!” He considered hugging me for a second, then glanced down at himself and thought better of it. Instead he extended an arm, and the shoulder at the end of it flexed beautifully. “I’m Connor.”

He could’ve dried his hand with the towel, but in his eagerness he hadn’t. I shook it anyway.

“Pleased to meet you Connor.”

“I’m uh, sorry about the nakedness,” he looked down again and grinned. “I was in for a bit of a workout, and this dunderhead obviously got the days mixed up or—”

“Don’t worry about it,” I smiled, giving my eyes permission to wander. “I’ve seen worse.”
