“Trust me, I know everything,” I seethed. “Especially about what a piss-poor girlfriend you were. But don’t worry about the guys,” I smirked. “I’ll take good care of them.”
In the center of Melissa’s challenge zone, the keystone slipped from Carmen and Ingie’s grasp. It hit the floor and shattered into three separate pieces, each with new cracks running through them.
“Unlike the way you’ve been taking care of your team.”
Devin and Hayden arrived in the nick of time, hoisting our own keystone overhead with four big arms. They set it perfectly into place, instantly taking all the weight from mine and Reese’s shoulders. I finally stood up straight again, stretching my arms to the sky as the crowd cheered.
“Or should I sayteams.”
Melissa looked back and forth between her team’s ruined effort and myself. Each time she did, my smile was wider.
“Come on!” Reese yelled bumping me in the shoulder. “Next checkpoint, now!”
“Gotta run,” I teased, sensing the rising torment in Melissa’s now frowning face. “My boyfriends need me.”
I winked savagely at her just before I was pulled away, jerking a nose toward their failed, broken challenge.
“Good luck with all ofthat.”
