“So… everything’s alright?”

The ocean breeze had picked up a little since my return from the other side of the island. It blew Brooke’s hair back from her face, revealing her flush pink cheeks as we leaned over the deck’s railing.

“As good as it can be,” I answered. “I mean, we sort of left our business right in the middle of the busy season. And we were going through an expansion. A little bit of a hiring binge.”

She raised an eyebrow. “That’s good, no?”

“Yes,” I eventually smiled back at her. “Of course it is.”

She looked more incredible than ever now, with the moonlight cutting soft shadows across her pretty face. She’d gotten some color during our time here. It made her skin look even smoother and sexier than it already was.

“There was no way we were missing this trip though,” I smiled, looking directly into her beautiful blue eyes. “And thank God we didn’t.”

“Amen to that.”

I reached out and pulled her into the crook of one arm, where she molded perfectly against my body. I was grateful for the closeness, as well as the warmth.

“Funny thing,” I told her. “I could’ve sworn I saw the Ice Cousins today. Ducking into that pizza place, when I was down at the docks.”

“You mean the hockey players from two seasons ago?”

I nodded. “Looked just like em’.”

Brooke paused and twirled her hair. “That’s weird, because Hayden claimed to have seen one of the fighter pilots from season three.”

“The Top Guns?”

“Yeah.”

I shrugged. “Could be, I guess. After all, ourteams ended up here together. Makes sense the network might buy a group package of vacation prizes.”

The waves were crashing faster now as the wind picked up. It created a gentle background of white noise.

“Reese and Hayden awake?” I asked.

Slowly she shook her head no.

“You screwed them to sleep, didn’t you?”

“Look,” she chuckled, “I said this already: You guys were the ones who started this whole crazy thing. You can’t blame a girl for taking advantage. My libido thanks you, by the way.”

She turned her gaze back to the moonlit sea. As she did, her eyes glimmered.

“So it’s crazy, is it?”

Brooke’s smile faded. All of a sudden it seemed like she regretted her choice of words. “No. I didn’t mean it like that.”

“Don’t worry,” I sighed. “I get it. Believe me, a relationship like that is quite an adjustment. It was for us, anyway.”

I was talking in the past tense now. Thinking about Melissa, which was the last thing I wanted to do.

“I can only imagine what it’s like on the flip side of the coin,” I finished. “You know. For the woman.”

“It’s hectic,” she answered glibly. “And… busy.”
