“Theadventurousone,” Brooke corrected him, “not reckless.” She shrugged and sipped her beer. “Alright, maybe alittlebit reckless.”

“Either way,” I interjected, “she probably doesn’t want to strip naked in front of three strange guys.” Those eyes met mine and I winked at her. “Not right away, anyway.”

“Who says we’re strangers?” Reese contended. “We’ve been around the world together!”

“And who saysI’dbe the one who ends up naked?” Brooke offered. “Sounds like you’re all sorely underestimating my poker skills.”

Hayden looked up, suddenly interested. “So you’re in?”

The silence that pervaded the villa was so total, so hopeful, I almost couldn’t believe it. Just beyond the shuttered windows I could hear the waves rolling gently.

“Well it wouldn’t be much of a game,” Brooke finally shot back. “I’m wearing a pair of shorts and a T-shirt, so I could theoretically be out in two rounds.” She added a devilish smile. “And yes, that means exactly what you think it does.”

“So then go put on a few more things,” Reese challenged. “Nottoomany though.” He already had a deck of cards in his palm, and was shuffling them deftly with one hand. “We’ve got all night. We can wait.”

“Or… we could play somethingelse,” Brooke offered, shifting her hips.

In the past few minutes, things had suddenly gotten a lot more interesting. Together as a team, the three of us eyed her skeptically.

“And what’s that?” I asked.

“Truth or Dare?”

The words dangled tantalizingly for a moment, as we gauged her seriousness.

“Really?” Reese asked smugly. “Like the game back in high school?”

“Ohwaybetter than in high school,” Brooke returned quickly.

My friend let out a short, sardonic laugh. “A little lame, isn’t it?”

God, I really wanted to kick his ass.

“Not unless you boys are playing it wrong,” she grinned.
